The Play Disney Parks App has retired after more than eight years of service at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Disney ended the app on September 16, 2026, bringing the standalone mobile platform to an end.

Disney launched Play Disney Parks on June 30, 2018. The service debuted at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California. Disney designed the app around games, trivia, digital achievements and interactive activities inside the theme parks.

Play Disney Parks Began With Attraction Games

The original Play Disney Parks app included several games connected to attraction queues.

At Toy Story Mania!, guests could play Playset Party. Peter Pan’s Flight offered Off to Neverland, while Space Mountain featured Rocket Race. Slinky Dog Dash also had Andy’s Board Game Blast.

These activities gave guests games to play while waiting for attractions. The app also offered Disney trivia and digital achievements.

Disney designed the achievement system around activities and experiences in the parks. Guests could collect achievements and share them through their Disney accounts.

The service later expanded beyond attraction queues. Disney added activities connected to different locations throughout its theme parks.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Play Disney Parks eventually became closely associated with interactive features in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

The Star Wars: Datapad allowed guests to use their phones to interact with elements throughout the land. The feature included activities such as scanning objects, hacking systems and translating fictional languages.

The Datapad depended on the Play Disney Parks app. Its interactive functions ended when Disney retired the app.

Batuu Bounty Hunters has a different status. The experience continues through MagicBand+ and physical screens around Galaxy’s Edge.

The Fab 50 Quest

Play Disney Parks also supported the Disney Fab 50 Quest at Walt Disney World. The activity centered on golden character statues placed throughout the resort’s four theme parks. Guests could use the app to interact with the statues and track their progress.

The app-based portion of the quest ended with the Play Disney Parks shutdown. The physical statues remain in the parks. MagicBand+ interactions with the Fab 50 statues also continue separately from the retired app.

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT also used Play Disney Parks. The interactive experience sends guests around World Showcase while they follow clues and complete tasks. Its operation relies on Disney’s mobile technology.

Disney announced that the treasure hunt is down for refurbishment but will return. They have not released how the games will be modified without the Play Disney Parks app.

A Chapter Ends

Play Disney Parks launched in 2018 with a straightforward purpose: give guests interactive activities they could access from their phones while visiting Disney parks. Over the following years, Disney expanded the service with attraction games, achievements and location-based experiences. s.

That approach has now ended. Disney retired Play Disney Parks on September 16, 2026, after more than eight years. Some features disappeared with the app, while others continue through separate technology.

For guests who used Play Disney Parks over the years, the shutdown marks the end of a standalone service that occupied a distinct place within Disney’s broader collection of park apps and interactive experiences.
