DC Studios’ animated Dynamic Duo movie has been delayed nearly three months, pushing its theatrical release deeper into 2028.
The Warner Bros. film was previously scheduled to arrive on June 30, 2028. According to Deadline, it will now open on September 22, 2028.

The outlet reports that Warner Bros. considers September a better window for reaching school-age children, teenagers, and college students. The studio also reportedly believes Dynamic Duo could appeal to the broad audience that embraced Sony’s Spider-Verse movies.
However, the timing of the change is difficult to ignore.
The announcement arrived only days after Paramount cleared a significant legal obstacle to its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. It also moves Dynamic Duo away from direct competition with Paramount’s upcoming Call of Duty movie, which remains scheduled for June 30, 2028.
What Is Dynamic Duo?
First announced in October 2024, Dynamic Duo will explore the early lives of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two characters who assume the mantle of Robin.
The project will combine animation, puppetry, and live-action elements through a technique called “Momo animation.” Arthur Mintz is directing from a screenplay by Matthew Aldrich.
Matt Reeves is producing through his 6th & Idaho banner alongside DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Reeves and his production company first signed an overall television deal with Warner Bros. in 2020. According to Variety, the two sides recently renewed that agreement despite the uncertainty surrounding Warner Bros.’ ownership.

Meanwhile, Gunn and Safran’s future under Warner Bros.’ new leadership has been the subject of rumors and heavy speculation.
Despite Reeves’ involvement, Dynamic Duo is reportedly unrelated to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman universe. It also remains separate from The Brave and the Bold, the planned DC Universe movie expected to feature Batman and his son, Damian Wayne.
Dynamic Duo Moves Away From Call of Duty
Deadline frames the scheduling change as unrelated to the Paramount merger.
Still, the decision removes a DC Studios release from the same weekend as one of Paramount’s major upcoming franchise movies. No Paramount film is currently scheduled to open against Dynamic Duo on September 22.
The comparison to the Spider-Verse films is also questionable, as neither movie opened during the late-summer or early-fall window Warner Bros. reportedly considers advantageous.

None of this proves the merger influenced the decision. Studios routinely adjust release dates years in advance based on competition, audience demographics, and the expected readiness of individual projects.
Nevertheless, the announcement’s proximity to the merger settlement makes the shift particularly noteworthy. A weekend that previously positioned Warner Bros. and Paramount as direct competitors will now allow both movies to open without challenging each other.
Warner Bros. also delayed its untitled Gremlins sequel from November 19, 2027, to October 6, 2028. However, that film did not face a Paramount release on either date.
The Timing Will Raise Questions
The delay gives the unconventional Robin story additional distance from Call of Duty and a potentially less crowded path into theaters. Whether that represents ordinary scheduling strategy or an early sign of coordination under Paramount’s expanding control remains unconfirmed.
For now, Warner Bros. and the Hollywood trades are presenting the move as an attempt to find the best audience for Dynamic Duo. Yet coming immediately after the merger breakthrough, the disappearance of a direct Paramount-Warner Bros. box-office battle will inevitably invite questions.
