Universal Volcano Bay will be dark longer than planned. The water park still closes for maintenance on Oct. 26, 2026, but Universal Orlando now lists a planned reopening “on or before April 1, 2027,” eight days later than the March 24 date it gave when the closure was first announced. That extra week swallows the end of March, including Easter weekend, so families booking late-winter or spring break trips should plan on Universal without its water park.
The updated language sits on Universal’s own park hours page and on the Volcano Bay page: “Universal Volcano Bay, which is currently scheduled to begin a maintenance closure on October 26, 2026, now has an updated planned reopening on or before April 1, 2027. Dates are subject to change.” Orlando’s WESH 2 reported the extended timeline on Oct. 5.
The closure itself is not new. Universal put it on the calendar back in April 2025, the same day it announced the end of the TapuTapu wearable and Virtual Line system, which went away on Oct. 1, 2025. What changed is the back end of the window.
The New Reopening Date by the Numbers
Keep the two dates straight. The original plan, as Universal posted it in April 2025, was a reopening on or before March 24, 2027. The current plan is on or before April 1, 2027. Counting from Oct. 26, that stretches the planned closure from 149 days to 157 days, a little over five months.
The phrase “on or before” also matters. April 1 is the latest date in Universal’s current plan, not a promised opening day. The park could come back earlier, and Universal warns that the dates are subject to change, which could also mean later. The safest assumption for anyone traveling in late March is that Volcano Bay will be closed until Universal actually posts operating hours for it.

Universal has not said what the maintenance covers. It has not announced a new slide, a retheme, or any other addition tied to the closure, so anything beyond routine refurbishment work is speculation for now.
What It Means for Late-Winter and Spring Break Trips
The practical impact lands on the busiest part of the early-year calendar. With the park planned to stay closed until as late as April 1, most February and March vacations, including many school spring breaks, fall inside the shutdown. Easter is March 28 in 2027, so families planning around Easter week should not count on a Volcano Bay day either unless Universal opens the park early.
That also affects ticket math. Anyone weighing a multi-park ticket that includes Volcano Bay should check what they are actually buying for travel dates inside the closure. Universal’s park hours calendar is the place to confirm what is open on a given day.
For visitors who need a water park during the closure, the closest alternatives are Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World, which run on their own seasonal calendars and should be checked separately before booking.
How to Fit In One Last Volcano Bay Day
There are still a little over two weeks to get in a visit. Universal’s site showed Volcano Bay hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 8, and WESH reported weekday hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the closure, with later 6 p.m. closings on the weekend of Oct. 10 and Oct. 11. Fall hours are short, so arriving at opening is the best way to get the most slides in.
A few changes since the last time many guests visited are worth knowing. Volcano Bay is now fully cashless, with purchases inside the park limited to credit or debit cards, Universal Pay, and similar options, according to Universal. And with TapuTapu gone, attraction lines are standard queues again, so the morning rush matters more than it did in the virtual line era.

After Oct. 25, the next milestone is Universal posting a real reopening date. Until then, April 1, 2027, is the outer edge of the plan, not a guarantee.
