Fortnite players have a chance to collect up to four weeks of free Item Shop cosmetics through a new Treasure Hunters reward, with two 14-day shopping periods spread across 2026 and 2027.

Called Pirate Shop Access, the prize can appear randomly in Battle Royale chests. Lucky recipients could substantially expand their lockers without spending V-Bucks, although several purchase categories are excluded.

The timing adds another point of interest. Treasure Hunters continues into early December, overlapping with Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch and the substantial competition for players’ attention that Rockstar’s release could bring.

A Rare Chest Drop Unlocks Free Shopping

According to Dexerto, the November 1 update added Pirate Shop Access to the possible Treasure Hunt prizes found in Battle Royale chests.

Recipients receive two opportunities to claim eligible shop items without paying their usual V-Bucks prices: one 14-day period in 2026 and another in 2027.

The countdown begins upon activation, allowing winners to choose when to start collecting. The first activation is available through December 15, 2026, while the second can be used between January 1 and December 15, 2027.

An early recipient, X user snowslept, shared footage demonstrating the free offers. Dexerto reports that they found the prize during their third Solos match after approximately 150 chest openings. The player also said claimed cosmetics remain in their locker after access expires, with Jam Tracks among the eligible items.

Their experience, however, does not establish how likely other players are to find the reward. Epic has not published drop odds, and opening a particular number of chests does not guarantee access.

The Exclusions Matter

Pirate Shop Access covers qualifying Item Shop offers priced in V-Bucks. Purchases requiring real money, gifts, and pass progression or rewards fall outside its scope.

The reported reward conditions also limit recipients to a single complimentary Sidekick that is not already in their collection. Access cannot subsequently be gifted or traded to another account. Reports indicate, however, that finding the reward during squad play grants the benefit to the active party.

These distinctions matter during the season’s One Piece crossover, which splits its characters between the Item Shop and Battle Pass.

Epic’s official release schedule begins with Luffy, Nami, and Usopp entering the shop at the November 1 launch. A$AP Rocky follows November 5 at 7 p.m. ET, with Zoro, Sanji, and the Chopper Sidekick arriving November 7.

Lil Uzi Vert is scheduled for November 12, followed by Buggy on November 13 and Kasane Teto and Cap’n Hatsune Miku on November 14.

Portgas D. Ace and Nico Robin, meanwhile, are part of the Battle Pass. Winning Pirate Shop Access does not automatically unlock every character featured in Treasure Hunters.

Activation timing will therefore affect the reward’s value. Winners can collect only the eligible offers available during their chosen two-week window.

A Promotion That Overlaps With GTA VI

Treasure Hunters runs through December 5, when Epic is planning a Chapter 7 end event. That seasonal endpoint is separate from the December 15 deadline for activating this year’s Pirate Shop reward.

The schedule places the treasure hunt—and potentially recipients’ free shopping periods—alongside Grand Theft Auto VI’s November 19 release.

A GameSquare and Pollfish survey covered by Fast Company offers an indication of the anticipation. Among 1,000 American adults who work full-time and regularly play video games, 39% said they planned to request time off to play, while 36% said they would call in sick.

Those responses reflect intentions among surveyed gamers, rather than confirmed absences or the behavior of the broader workforce. Even with those limitations, they suggest Rockstar’s release could absorb considerable gaming time.

Epic has not presented Pirate Shop Access as a response to GTA VI. Still, the reward gives players another reason to return to Fortnite matches, while successful treasure hunters have an incentive to check each new shop rotation.

Whether that promise of free cosmetics can hold their attention once a new Grand Theft Auto arrives remains to be seen.
