Game of Thrones fans hoping for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms spoilers from the series’ young star have been told to look elsewhere. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dexter Sol Ansell offered a clever response when asked about the story for the upcoming second season.
“I’m having a lot of fun, but if you really want to know more, there is a book!” he said. Emphasizing his point, he added, “There’s a book, and if you want to know more, just read it.”

The reply is drawing attention not just because of its humor, but because it also suggests the actor may have received some media training.
Dexter Sol Ansell Has Developed a Reputation for Unpredictability
Ansell, who portrays the young Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, has developed a reputation for being one of the franchise’s most unpredictable interview subjects. It is a characteristic that may have caused headaches for HBO’s publicity team and even his co-stars.
Earlier this year, Ansell inadvertently sparked widespread speculation that actor Henry Cavill might be appearing in a future season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
In a widely circulated video from an October appearance at New York Comic Con, Ansell appeared to suggest that Cavill could be involved with the series. The comment prompted a wave of fan theories about which character the former Witcher actor might portray. The rumors became so widespread that co-star Peter Claffey later clarified that the speculation stemmed from “a complete misunderstanding.”

Ansell himself later attempted to set the record straight, joking, “So, anyway, Henry Cavill is… NOT in the second season!”
The Young Star Also Accidentally Revealed a Major Dunk and Egg Spoiler
More recently, Ansell accidentally revealed what many fans considered a major spoiler involving the eventual fate of Ser Duncan the Tall, information that he said came directly from George R.R. Martin. The moment, which quickly spread across social media, appeared to catch Claffey completely off guard as he attempted to walk back his co-star’s comments in real time.

“We don’t know exactly what’s happened, but let’s just get this season 1 out of the way and we’ll see,” Claffey said.
Given that history, HBO executives may actually be relieved that Ansell declined to elaborate on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2.
In This Case, The Answer Really Is to Read the Book
Of course, the actor is technically correct. Unlike Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is adapting a completed story. HBO has already confirmed that the second season will follow George R.R. Martin’s novella The Sworn Sword, the second installment in the author’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series.

In light of that, The Hollywood Reporter’s attempt to fish for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 spoilers is somewhat ironic. While HBO’s House of the Dragon may eventually move beyond Martin’s completed source material, and A Song of Ice and Fire remains unfinished, the next chapter of Dunk and Egg’s journey has been sitting on bookstore shelves for more than two decades.
For once, a star’s refusal to answer questions about the future may have been the most helpful spoiler-free advice possible: read the book.
