Data from Nielsen’s Top 10 Original Streaming Series has come in and we’re finding out just how popular the fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett must have been. Whereas the series had been on a general malaise after the first two episodes, the fifth saw the show climb all the way to the second spot overall.
Nielsen Top Ten Original Streaming Series
Position, Platform, Title, # of Episodes, Streaming Minutes in Millions Total Estimate
| 1 | Netflix | Ozark | 37 | 4,095 |
| 2 | Disney+ | The Book of Boba Fett | 5 | 744 |
| 3 | Netflix | The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window | 7 | 650 |
| 4 | Netflix | Archive 81 | 8 | 462 |
| 5 | Netflix | All Of Us Are Dead | 12 | 448 |
| 6 | Netflix | Cobra Kai | 40 | 395 |
| 7 | Netflix | In From The Cold | 8 | 349 |
| 8 | Netflix | The Witcher | 16 | 315 |
| 9 | Netflix | Too Hot To Handle | 29 | 309 |
| 10 | Netflix | Cheer | 15 | 287 |
Still, however, it should be noted that the show did not perform resoundingly well in a historical comparison. Grabbing 744 million minutes of streaming may seem huge, but it’s really not. Take for example Ozark which more than quadrupled Boba Fett’s viewing times. Sure, there are more episodes, but viewing was likely contained to particular episodes in large part — the same as The Book of Boba Fett.
The fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett was the one that did not even feature Boba Fett. Instead, the episode was almost totally about The Mandalorian and Grogu. What will be very interesting is seeing the next week’s totals. We were informed by a source that the Luke Skywalker sixth episode had a triple twenty-four hour viewing audience; but Nielsen doesn’t score their minutes by a daily total. Instead they have weekly totals. However, if the Luke Skywalker episode was so monumentally successful, will we see that number edge close to the top spot? That would certainly be a tall order.
If you want to talk about Disney+ and what was driving subscriptions, it also probably wasn’t Boba Fett — at least during this week. Do you remember that Encanto movie? Yeah, it was still pulling in almost double what The Book of Boba Fett was doing with 1.36 billion minutes of streaming. Count us not surprised if Disney is building a Casita attraction sometime in the future.
