Magic Kingdom Stuns with Empty Labor Day as Slowest Disney World Summer in Recent Memory Comes to a Close

Labor Day at Walt Disney World, particularly in the Magic Kingdom, should be the grand finale of the summer season. It’s a day when Florida schools are closed, parents have time off, and families from up North take their last vacations before heading back to classrooms. Yet in 2025, what should have been a triumphant crowd surge instead looked more like the lockdown-era doldrums of 2020.

Spaceship Earth Closed in EPCOT: A Refurbishment, Upgrade, or Perhaps More?

As of August 25, 2025 Spaceship Earth, the iconic “giant golfball” of EPCOT, closed down temporarily for a refurbishment. While all attractions at Walt Disney World need regular maintenance, there is a question as to whether this closure is simply for regular, ongoing maintenance, or will the attraction that has us “thanking the Phoenicians” be getting an upgrade or two?

Disney World May Break Records in September for Lowest Crowd Levels Since 2021 According to Data and Analysts

It’s looking increasingly likely that September 2025 will deliver the lightest Walt Disney World (WDW) crowds since the post-reopening doldrums of 2021. Several hard signals point the same way: multi-month wait-time trends, aggressive late-summer discounts, school calendars, hurricane-season risk, and new competition across town. Put together, they suggest a “Slowtember” that could rival any month since the pandemic period.
