The drama surrounding the Christy biopic escalated fast this week, and the person who finally stepped in to cool the temperature wasn’t a Hollywood publicist or a studio exec. It was Christy Martin herself, standing up for star Sydney Sweeney after she was attacked by Batwoman actress Ruby Rose.

When the woman whose life story is at the center of the movie speaks up, everyone else tends to quiet down.

The situation has turned into one of the most talked-about dust-ups of the week, putting Christy Martin, Sydney Sweeney, and Ruby Rose at the center of a debate over casting, loyalty, and the always-unpredictable echo chamber of social media.

Ruby Rose Lights the Fuse

The firestorm began when Ruby Rose took aim at Sweeney following the film’s poor opening weekend.

According to the New York Post, Christy earned $1.3 million across more than 2,000 screens, a performance that triggered a wave of commentary online.

Rose, claiming she had once been in the running to play a character named Cherry, posted a sharply worded message on Threads.

“For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’, none of ‘the people’ want to see someone want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us,” Rose said, appearing to state that Sweeney hates gay people, despite Sweeney never showing any malice toward the LGBT community. “You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”

It was blunt, incendiary, and guaranteed to dominate entertainment news cycles—until Martin stepped in.

Christy Martin Throws a Right Hook Online

While the box-office performance of Christy led to plenty of headlines, Christy Martin’s response to the criticism aimed at Sydney Sweeney became the defining moment of the controversy. Her message wasn’t vague, coded, or wrapped in PR language. It was the voice of someone who’s taken hits in every sense of the word—and still gets back up swinging.

“I’ve always been a fighter. My life reflected that in every way and now I fight for others,” Martin wrote on Instagram. “My life reflected that in every way and now I fight for others. The past few days I have seen some people attack my friend Sydney Sweeney. Syd not only worked her ass off for this film, she worked her ass off for me. For my story. For so many others suffering in silence. So I want to be clear about who Syd is. She is my friend and ally!”

That final line did more damage than any counter-post or PR rebuttal ever could. When the subject of the biopic defends the actress portraying her, the conversation changes immediately.

Sydney Sweeney Responds With Calm Instead of Fire

Sweeney chose a far different tone. After the movie’s opening came and went, she addressed fans on Instagram with a quiet message of gratitude.

She said she was “so deeply proud” of the project and continued, “We don’t always make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and Christy has been the most impactful project of my life.”

This year has already been a rough one for her commercially, with the Post noting that Americana brought in less than $500,000 on a $9 million budget and Ron Howard’s Eden topping out at $2.5 million. Add in the chatter around her American Eagle ad, and Sweeney has spent much of 2025 weathering criticism from every direction.

A Rare Moment of Clarity in Hollywood Drama

Despite the noise, the heart of the story is simple: Christy Martin—the fighter, the survivor, the person whose real life holds more weight than any online commentary—stood firmly by Sydney Sweeney in the face of Ruby Rose’s attack.

No Hollywood spin. No studio talking points. Just loyalty.

And in a week overloaded with hot takes, that’s the part that actually lands.

So, a Hollywood (jewess?) actress is jealous because Sydney S has great jeans.

“Syd not only worked her ass off for this film, she worked her ass off for me.”
Is this a porn flick she made, or something?
