Both Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have completely ignored the serious allegations against their one time Democratic ally Eric Swalwell, with no “jokes” appearing in their politically charged monologues since the congressman resigned in disgrace one week ago.
For years, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have built their brands on one thing: going after political figures. So when a major political controversy explodes—and they say absolutely nothing—it’s glaring.
According to a report from Breitbart, both late night hosts have completely ignored the situation surrounding former Congressman Eric Swalwell, who recently resigned from Congress and dropped his gubernatorial ambitions following a wave of allegations from multiple women. These remain unproven accusations, but they were serious enough to end a political career overnight.
And yet, if you tuned into late night this week, you wouldn’t know any of it happened.
No Monologue. No Punchline. Nothing.
That’s what stands out here. Not disagreement, spin, or even a bad joke.
Just silence.
Colbert and Kimmel—who have spent years dissecting political scandals in nightly monologues—have not mentioned Swalwell at all, at least during the timeframe highlighted in the report.

That absence becomes even harder to ignore when you consider how these shows typically operate when it’s right leaning figured embroiled in controversy. If there’s a major issue like this, it usually becomes content. If there’s a scandal, it becomes a segment.
Unless, apparently, it’s one of their political friends and allies.
A Familiar Face on Friendly Stages
This wasn’t some unknown politician flying under the radar.
Swalwell was a regular guest in the late night ecosystem, appearing on both The Late Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! while promoting his political ambitions. The tone was often light, supportive, even promotional.
Now, as controversy surrounds him, that relationship has quietly vanished from the conversation.
No follow-up, scrutiny, or accountability. No jokes about the now former congressman’s alleged exploits in the name of fair and balanced coverage. Just a pivot to other topics.
The Double Standard Question
Late night has made a very deliberate choice over the past decade to step into political commentary. These aren’t just comedy shows anymore—they’ve positioned themselves as cultural watchdogs, especially when it comes to political behavior.
That comes with expectations.

If a Republican politician were forced to resign amid a similar wave of allegations—even if those claims were still unproven—would it be ignored?
Or would it lead the monologue for a week straight?
Imagine for a moment that this was someone like Republicans Ted Cruz or Josh Hawley. Entire shows would be devoted to dunking on them in the name of so-called “political comedy.”
Silence Is Still a Statement
To be fair, these shows are not obligated to cover every story. Editorial judgment exists, and not every headline makes the cut.

But when coverage consistently flows in one direction—and stops entirely in another—it stops looking like judgment and starts looking like propoganda.
And in today’s media landscape, audiences notice that difference immediately.

To borrow a phrase from Fight Club, “I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.”
Long may these wretches continue to wreck The Media.
Yeah. And water is wet. The sky is blue. Not sure anyone seriously expected them to take shots at Eric Fartsmel. At least with Jon Stewart he’d take shots at both sides, especially with something this slimy.
Ironically enough, there was a Republican Representative in the last few weeks, Tony Gonzales, who is in similar hot water. Not only did he have an affair but the chick later killed herself via self-immolation.
You might say his political career died in a fire…
