If you’ve been following the Wicked promotional cycle, both this year and last year, you already know: Cynthia Erivo Ariana Grande being weird with each other has become a running theme.

The pair has turned what should be a routine blockbuster press tour into modern performance art — an ever-changing swirl of emotional moments, breathless admiration, tearful interviews, physical clinginess, and now… aura readings.

Yes, full, multi-color, spiritually-charged aura readings.

The Aura Moment That Broke the Internet

In their latest red carpet appearance, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were asked a question no one saw coming: “What color is each other’s aura?”

What followed instantly went viral.

Ariana paused with reverence — the kind usually reserved for ancient relics — and said: “Yellow. Sunshine. I think there’s also purple.”

Cynthia, equally entranced, countered with lavish imagery.

“I see, like a ciel blue, you know?” she said, as if anyone is supposed to know… “Like aqua. And like, sunset-orange.”

The two then reacted to the question as if they had just unlocked the final secret of the universe.

The internet, predictably, exploded.

Some viewers were charmed. Others were baffled. Many were both. Reddit summed the discourse perfectly.

“They’re sweet and all, but this annoys tf out of me,” one user cited by the New York Post said.

Another said: “Lmao they are SO annoying…and I love it.”

Whether you’re delighted or exhausted, one thing is clear: this press tour has created its own gravitational field. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo continue to make headlines with every weird interview as they clutch at one another and make out there spacey comments that bewilder, often irritate, and in some cases delight the audience.

The Pattern: Overwrought, Emotional, and Intensely Attached

If this were an isolated moment, it might have slipped through the typical entertainment cycle unnoticed.

But it isn’t.

This is only the latest in a long, long series of unusual press interactions from the duo. We’ve now seen:

  • Crying in interviews
  • Long pauses followed by whispered affirmations
  • Statements about “feeling each other’s energy”
  • Nearly every red-carpet pose involving one clinging to the other
  • Reactions so emotional that entire threads have been dedicated to decoding them

Just recently, Erivo made headlines by grasping at Grande’s necklace during a red carpet interview despite that fact that the necklace didn’t appear to need fixing.

It’s the kind of press tour where every interview feels one dramatic monologue away from becoming a full Broadway act. At this point, the viewing public has grown accustomed to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande being weird with each other in interview.

Ariana’s Oz Interpretation

While not part of the aura discussion, Ariana recently added to the ongoing strangeness with her now-viral interpretation of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book, claiming that the book has always been a gay allegory.

“Oz has always been a qu**r place, a safe place for queer people, for every different color of the rainbow,” she said as Erivo stood there agreeing. “Read the L. Frank Baum books — it’s the truth. You’re safe with us. The gayer the better.”

This wasn’t the first time Grande made this claim. It popped up during the press tour for the first film as well.

This was another moment merging Broadway fandom with social activism — and for many longtime fans of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it signaled a concentrated and growing effort to reinterpret a century-old children’s story through a modern ideological lens.

The viral clip already has hundreds of thousands of views, sparking fierce debate over whether the Land of Oz is truly being reclaimed for the LGBT community or simply being rewritten in its image.

Why This Keeps Blowing Up

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been igniting headlines with weird behavior and comments.

Their chemistry is undeniably intense. They seem joined at the hip, constantly complimenting and reassuring each other, often through tears. Fans see it; critics see it; casual viewers see it.

Every interview becomes a new meme, whether it’s aura readings, tearful pauses, hyper-poetic introspection, or ideological statements.

And the internet loves nothing more than consistency in chaos.

By the time Wicked actually premieres, the press tour itself may be more memorable than the movie.
