Ana Nogueira, already a key player in DC Studios’ upcoming slate as the writer of Supergirl, has been chosen to write the next Wonder Woman movie.

The news, first reported by The Wrap, comes as Nogueira’s first major DC film, Supergirl, is still a year away from release. It’s a move that signals James Gunn’s growing trust in her storytelling abilities, but also one that puts her in a high-pressure position before audiences have had a chance to see her work on the big screen.
From Supergirl to the Amazon Princess
Nogueira is quickly becoming a go-to creative voice for DC. In addition to Supergirl, she’s now taking the lead on one of the company’s most iconic heroes. She’s also a playwright and actress, but in the DCU she’s solidifying herself as one of Gunn’s most trusted collaborators, especially for projects that could shape the tone of the rebooted universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8 (2022), DC Comics
Supergirl, based on Tom King’s controversial comic run, is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock as a more jaded, battle-hardened Kara Zor-El—a sharp tonal departure from past portrayals.

The film, slated for June 26, 2026, will follow Kara across alien worlds in a more mature, grittier space adventure. Its success or failure could have ripple effects, influencing the audience’s confidence in Nogueira’s Wonder Woman script and DC’s broader creative direction.
A New Direction for Diana Prince
When Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they opted for a hard reboot of the DC Universe.
That meant saying goodbye to Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince and Patty Jenkins’ planned Wonder Woman 3 in favor of a fresh take. It’s part of the “Gods and Monsters” chapter of the DCU that also includes Superman, Supergirl, Peacemaker, Creature Commandos and several other interconnected projects.

Gunn has promised this new iteration will stand apart from what audiences have seen before, with a tone and style distinct from the Gadot era, and potentially a different narrative focus than the familiar origin or modern-day stories.
The upcoming Wonder Woman movie is being developed alongside Paradise Island—formerly announced as Paradise Lost, an HBO series centered on the politics and intrigue of Themyscira. Early comparisons have likened it to Game of Thrones in tone. While Gunn has downplayed rumors of the project being “fast-tracked,” he has confirmed it’s a priority and hinted that Nogueira may not be the only writer involved.
Casting and the Stakes Ahead
Casting is still up in the air. Gal Gadot’s return is off the table, and Gunn recently addressed speculation that Andor star Adria Arjona might be in the running, calling her “a great Wonder Woman” but stopping short of confirmation.
The studio may wait until a finalized script is in place before moving forward on casting, especially with the film still in the early development stage.

The decision to give Nogueira Wonder Woman before Supergirl has proven both a significant vote of confidence and a gamble. Gunn is placing multiple cornerstone projects in her hands, trusting her with some of the most recognizable names in DC’s roster.

If Supergirl takes off next summer, Nogueira could cement herself as one of the defining voices of the DCU’s new era. If not, this could be the kind of bold creative risk that invites second-guessing from both fans and critics.

I didn’t watch, and won’t be, the hew Trash Superman Movie, but what I heard is Supergirl is just a Drunk College Chick in it.
So it’s clear the Supergirl Film will be Trash, and this new Wonder Woman will be Trash. Likely about how Diana “Don’t need no Superman” and is a “Strong Independent Wonder Woman”.
So, sounds like a project made by and for “Latinx” man-hating lesbians. You can send this movie to Alligator Alcatraz where it and all the other illegals belong.
“[woke feminst] could cement herself as one of the defining voices of the DCU’s new era.”
The D-She-U will fail for the same reasons the DEI M-She-U fails.
One reason of several is, people just don’t want to watch females in action movies. Superheroines are unpopular.
In addition to the DEI sop factor, we are just bored of woke, weak-man, strong-woman, race-swaps and gender-swaps Superhero movies in general. Women themselves ignored the M-She-U movies.
