James Gunn may have already found the new Wonder Woman of the DCU in Andor actress Adria Ajorna, and DC Studios is doing just about everything possible short of confirming it.
Arjona has already filmed a mysterious role in Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow, but the identity of her character remains officially under wraps. Initial reports connected Arjona to the Superman character Maxima, but speculation that she is actually playing Diana Prince has only grown stronger as Arjona continues talking about the project.
Now, even Arjona appears to be having some fun with the increasingly difficult-to-ignore Wonder Woman rumors.
Adria Arjona Won’t Say if She’s Playing Wonder Woman
During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Arjona confirmed that she knew the identity of her DC character when she originally auditioned for the movie.
When Horowitz suggested that she could be playing Maxima, Arjona simply responded, “Could be.”
Things became considerably more interesting when Horowitz decided to put money on his Wonder Woman theory.
“I’ll bet you $500 you are playing Wonder Woman,” Horowitz told her.
Rather than dismissing the suggestion, Arjona countered by bringing Maxima into the wager. The two eventually agreed that if Arjona turns out to be Wonder Woman, she will donate $500 to a charity of Horowitz’s choosing. If she is Maxima, Horowitz will make the donation to a charity selected by Arjona.
That obviously isn’t confirmation, but it also isn’t doing anything to stop the speculation.

Arjona provided another tantalizing clue when discussing the mysterious character.
While talking about returning to work with people she already trusts, including Gunn, Arjona referred to the character as “iconic.”
She also confirmed that she already has a costume.
“I love my costume,” Arjona said. “Really like my costume.”
Again, none of this proves that Arjona is Wonder Woman. But describing the character as “iconic” is certainly going to raise some eyebrows when the two leading possibilities are Wonder Woman — one of the most recognizable superheroes in the world — and Maxima.
The Maxima Reports Have Never Completely Settled This
Arjona officially joined Man of Tomorrow earlier this year following a considerable amount of confusion surrounding the role.
Reports originally connected her to Maxima, the alien queen introduced in Action Comics #645 who famously came to Earth believing Superman was worthy of becoming her mate. However, even reporting surrounding Arjona’s casting wasn’t completely consistent.
TheWrap reported in April that Arjona had landed a role in Man of Tomorrow but specifically noted that while Maxima had been rumored, it was unknown whether that identification was accurate.

The uncertainty immediately fueled theories that Maxima could’ve been a smokescreen for something considerably bigger: DC Studios quietly casting its new Wonder Woman.
Those theories have never gone away.
Gunn himself previously added fuel to the fire when he responded to fan casting of Arjona as Diana Prince by saying she “would be a great Wonder Woman.”
At the time, Gunn pushed back on the idea that the comment meant anything more than that, noting that he had known Arjona for years after working with her on The Belko Experiment.
But now she’s actually in his DC Universe.
That Workout Certainly Isn’t Helping the Secret
If DC Studios wants fans to stop guessing Wonder Woman, Arjona’s recent training videos probably aren’t going to help.
The actress recently revealed the extraordinary workout routine she undertook for Man of Tomorrow, which included approximately 45 minutes of cardio, two hours of weightlifting, and six rounds of boxing.
“I’m really enjoying it. I’m enjoying the transformation, but it’s hard work,” Arjona said. “I’ve never felt stronger, but it’s hard.”

She then specifically connected that motivation to the DC character she’s playing.
“I think the excitement of playing the woman I’m playing gives me everything I need to wake up,” she said.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Wonder Woman. Maxima is an extremely powerful character in her own right and would certainly justify serious physical preparation.
But taken alongside Arjona calling her character “iconic,” her refusal to dismiss the Wonder Woman theory, and DC Studios’ continued refusal to identify her character, it’s easy to understand why the Diana Prince speculation has exploded.
Wonder Woman Is Already Being Rebooted
What we do know is that Gunn’s DCU needs a Wonder Woman.
Gunn confirmed last year that a new Wonder Woman movie was being written for the DCU, effectively ensuring that Diana Prince will eventually join David Corenswet’s Superman and whatever version of Batman ultimately emerges from DC Studios.

That Wonder Woman will replace Gal Gadot, whose tenure as Diana began with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before continuing through Wonder Woman, Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, and several cameos. Gadot recently revealed that nobody from DC Studios formally told her she had been replaced, despite Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously discussing a potential third Wonder Woman movie with her.
DC Studios ultimately moved forward with a new continuity while retaining some actors and characters from the previous regime, including John Cena’s Peacemaker and Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle.
Wonder Woman, however, is getting rebooted. The only question is whether Gunn has already introduced her without telling anyone.
Is Maxima Just a Cover Story?
There still isn’t enough evidence to definitively declare that Adria Arjona is the new Wonder Woman.
Maxima remains a legitimate possibility, particularly because the character has repeatedly been connected to Man of Tomorrow and would fit naturally into a Superman story involving Brainiac.
But the longer DC Studios keeps Arjona’s identity secret, the stranger the situation becomes.

If she’s simply Maxima, why maintain this level of secrecy after filming has already wrapped? Why allow months of Wonder Woman speculation to continue unchecked? Why is Arjona describing the character as “iconic” while openly entertaining bets that she’s playing Diana Prince?
Maybe everyone is reading too much into a carefully orchestrated superhero movie publicity campaign. Or maybe James Gunn already cast one of the most important characters in the entire DC Universe and is waiting for Man of Tomorrow to make the introduction.
For now, DC Studios isn’t saying. But Adria Arjona certainly isn’t making the Wonder Woman theory any easier to dismiss.
