Seems like Tangled may be getting more than a live-action movie soon as Disney continues to hint at a Broadway stage adaptation.
Performances at the 2026 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts and remarks by theater professionals have drawn renewed attention to the possibility that Tangled might be developed for the stage, although no official announcement has been made by Disney. At the Festival of the Arts, which ran January 16 through February 23, 2026, Disney on Broadway presented a series of concerts featuring songs from Disney animated films and related material.
During one concert, Broadway actors Susan Egan and James Monroe Iglehart performed “Mother Knows Best,” a song from the 2010 animated film Tangled, at EPCOT in Florida. Footage of the performance was shared on social media by Disney’s Broadway account and has circulated on entertainment websites.

Egan sang Mother Gothel’s part, as Iglehart comedically mouthed “help me” to the audience. Disney posted the performance to Instagram, which you can check out below.

Susan Egan is known for originating the title role in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, as well as Megara in the animated film Hercules. James Monroe Iglehart won a Tony Award for his performance in Aladdin. He has also worked on other Broadway productions such as Chicago, Hamilton, and more. And he’s already been a voice in Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, as the voice of Lance Strongbow. Both performers have established theater careers.
Other Teases
On February 13th, earlier in the festival, Broadway performer Ashley Brown performed “When Will My Life Begin,” another song from the original film. She introduced the song, saying the following:
“So, as we all know, Disney theatrical is always in development. They are always trying to nurture new shows from the vast Disney catalog. However, we never know what’s going to be next. But I do know one that’s being explored. Do you want a hint? Yes? Imagine being locked in your tower, with nothing to do but read and paint.”
BroadwayWorld announced back in 2024 that a stage production of Tangled was being explored. The recent EPCOT performances have fans excited again about a possible Broadway play. Still, exploring and confirming a play are two different things.
Context
Tangled was released by Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2010. The film, featuring music by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, retells the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Rapunzel with original songs. The animated movie earned positive box office results and has remained part of Disney’s portfolio of classic animated features.
Disney on Broadway concerts, including those at EPCOT, often bring performers from Disney theatrical productions together to showcase music from films and stage shows. These performances celebrate the songs and talents associated with Disney,.

Tangled’s story and music could lend themselves to a stage musical format, and the appearance of established Broadway talent performing songs from the film has contributed to ongoing discussion.
It is also worth noting that Disney’s interactions with Broadway have varied widely by property over the years. Some animated films have been adapted and developed into full Broadway runs, while others have not reached that stage despite interest or performances in related events. Disney does not typically confirm a Broadway show until official development milestones are reached.
Until Disney Theatrical issues an official statement or press release about a Tangled stage musical, the existing information is grounded in performance appearances and commentary by individual performers. Observers of theater news and Disney entertainment updates continue to monitor the situation for further developments.
