Disney has recently restocked a teddy bear at Walt Disney World that carries a $450 price tag, illustrating changes in how some Disney plush products are marketed and sold.

The premium plush, a collectible Duffy the Disney Bear made by the German toymaker Steiff, became available again at the Germany pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase. It is part of the Steiff collection and has light brown fur and a Mickey‑shaped face, dressed in a white sailor shirt and hat with blue trim.

Duffy’s History

Duffy the Disney Bear was originally created in 2002 as “The Disney Bear” for Once Upon a Toy, a merchandise store at Walt Disney World. That early version sold modestly, and the concept was later reintroduced as Duffy, with a backstory tied to Mickey Mouse’s travels, in 2005 at Tokyo DisneySea. Duffy has since become a popular franchise in several international Disney parks, notably in Japan and parts of Asia, where the brand of plush merchandise and themed products is extensive.

Duffy has made reappearances at Walt Disney World for Christmas as Santa as well as for the 70th anniversary with his friend ShellieMay. However, he is no longer a staple of domestic markets.

Well, until now. With quite the price tag.

Steep Prices

The recent restock of the $450 Steiff plush places that item at the high end of Disney merchandise. Steiff is known for collectible stuffed animals with premium materials and craftsmanship. At a price point around $450, this plush is significantly more expensive than typical children’s plush toys. Its retail positioning and limited distribution suggest it is tailored instead toward adult collectors and enthusiasts.

In contrast to this collectible, standard Disney plush items featuring Duffy and his friends have historically been offered at parks and online at price points appropriate for general souvenir shoppers and families. For example, seasonal or regional Duffy and ShellieMay plush sets or typical Disney Parks plush bears are often priced under $50 in many retail listings, based on recent retailer inventories.

The contrast between a $450 collectible in EPCOT and the more modest, widely accessible plush highlights a broader merchandising strategy. Products with premium pricing and limited release dates are more likely to appeal to adult collectors who follow Disney merchandise trends closely. These items are usually produced in smaller quantities and can function as collector pieces rather than traditional toys. Disney’s collaboration with an established collectible maker like Steiff further supports this positioning.

Conclusion

The recent introduction and restock of a high‑end collectible bear in EPCOT, combined with the varied availability of classic plush bears in U.S. parks, illustrates how Disney’s merchandise strategy sees Disney adults as a major market.

For anyone who might want to grab Duffy for their child at a more affordable price, your options are a store on the Disney Adventure cruise, the international market, or the resale market online. Disney does not seem especially interested in making the bear accessible to the everyday family.

I wouldn’t pay 45 cents for that. It’s 100% Pedo Approved.

Why would you not show an image of the actual bear in the article so one can see what morons will pay 450$ for?
I doubt it is for the poor dude in the costume, which i suspect furries would be more than happy to pay 450$ for!!!!!

They do show it with the price tag right next to it. And it’s nothing special.
