Hayden Christensen is accustomed to being recognized as Anakin Skywalker. Being recognized by a stranger stealing his belongings inside his own home, however, was something else entirely.
The Star Wars actor shared the unusual story during his October 30 appearance at Los Angeles Comic Con. Asked about his strangest fan encounter, Christensen recalled a burglary that took an unexpected turn when the intruder recognized him and began apologizing.
Christensen then offered to help the man get home and gave him clothes and shoes.
Christensen Mistook The Intruder For A Friend
According to The Nerd Wire’s coverage of the panel, the incident happened years ago while Christensen was at home talking on the phone.
When his front door opened and someone headed upstairs, Christensen assumed the friend he was speaking with on the phone had arrived and was playing a trick on him. Deciding to play along, he said nothing about hearing someone enter the house.
He described moving around a fireplace with the intruder in a scene seemingly lifted from a classic slapstick comedy before sitting back down to finish his call. When he eventually went to surprise his supposed friend, he instead discovered an unfamiliar man carrying an armful of his possessions.

“I’m like, is this a delivery guy?” Christensen recalled. “And I look and I’m like, this is all my stuff.”
Once the stranger realized whose home he had entered, his behavior changed. According to Christensen, the man recognized him, apologized repeatedly, and began handing everything back.
For an actor whose most famous character becomes one of cinema’s most feared villains, it was a peculiar moment to discover the benefits of a recognizable face.
An Offer To Help Him Get Home
The man told Christensen that he had fallen on hard times and was trying to scrape together enough money for a ticket home.
Christensen offered to buy it himself. If the man returned the following day, the actor would drive him to the train station and purchase his ticket.
He also provided some immediate assistance. After the stranger said he lacked suitable clothing to find work, Christensen took him upstairs and gave him clothes and a pair of shoes.

It was an unusually generous response to catching someone stealing his property. The proposed trip to the station, however, never happened. Christensen said the man did not return the next day.
The actor closed the story with a pointed request.
“Please don’t try to burglarize my house again,” he told the crowd. “I’ve got great security cameras.”
An Unexpected Ending To A Burglary
The story’s strangest detail may be how long it took Christensen to realize something was wrong. What he initially interpreted as a friend’s prank turned out to be a stranger walking through his home and gathering his belongings.

Recognition then brought another unexpected turn: The burglar began returning what he had taken, while Christensen listened to his explanation and offered help.
The man entered hoping to leave with stolen property. Instead, he departed with clothing Christensen willingly gave him—and an invitation to return for help getting home.
It also gave Christensen a convention story few actors could match, even after decades of meeting fans in unusual circumstances.
