How to Train Your Dragon: Flight Academy is currently open in Philadelphia. The experience is located at the Comcast Technology Center in Center City, inside the Universal Sphere. This dome-based immersive theater space gives fans a chance to train with their favorite characters from Berk.

The attraction opened on May 27, 2026, and is scheduled to run through November 20, 2026. The program is free, but reservations are strongly recommended.

The installation is part of a broader set of limited-run immersive projects that use established film franchises to create short narrative experiences in existing venues.

Venue: Comcast Technology Center and Universal Sphere

The experience takes place inside the Universal Sphere, located in the upper lobby of the Comcast Technology Center at 1800 Arch Street in Philadelphia. The sphere is a large 360-degree dome theater designed for projection-based immersive presentations.

The interior uses full-dome visual projection combined with spatial audio to create a surrounding environment. Unlike traditional attractions that rely on ride systems or continuous walk-through layouts, the Universal Sphere operates on a scheduled, group-based entry system.

Each presentation is short in duration, typically around 7 minutes, with repeated showings throughout the day. The structure allows for controlled capacity while maintaining consistent viewing conditions for each group.

Sensory-friendly showings are also offered on a daily basis, with additional early-morning sessions on select days.

Storyline and Experience Structure

Inside the Philadelphia presentation, visitors first enter the Isle of Berk Visitor Center where they can take pictures of some of the movie characters as they go into the interactive egg-hatchery.

From there, guests move into the dome theater inside the Universal Sphere. The main segment follows a guided storyline featuring characters such as Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, Toothless, and Stormfly. The presentation centers on a simulated flight training sequence, where visitors are shown dragon riding through large-scale projection and synchronized sound across land and water.

Inside the 360-dome, the seating remains fixed throughout the experience. Instead, the shifting visuals, surround audio, and full-dome projection rather than physical motion or ride mechanics give attendees the sensation of flying across the Isle of Berk.

At the end of the experience, guests receive a complimentary Dragon Rider license. The card includes the guest’s chosen Viking-style name, chosen dragon, and a photo taken during the visit.

Operating Schedule and Duration

The installation runs on a limited seasonal schedule from May 27 to November 20, 2026. Operating hours typically follow a daytime schedule, with showings every 30 minutes depending on demand.

Each session lasts approximately 7 minutes, and visitors are admitted in timed groups. Reservations are recommended, although some walk-up availability may exist depending on capacity.
