Jeremy Renner might be open to return for Hawkeye Season 2 after all.

When it comes to beating the odds, Jeremy Renner knows a thing or two. After nearly being crushed by a 14,000 lb snowplow in 2023, a disaster that could have ended not just his career, but his life, he’s ready to get back to superheroics.

“My body’s getting ready for something like that,” he said in a recent interview with Empire. And by “something” he means Hawkeye Season 2. Speaking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Renner said, “I’m always happy to be in that world, man. I love all those guys, I love the character.”

Payment Dispute

Back in May, however, Renner struck a different tone on the High Performance podcast.

“They asked me to do [Hawkeye] season 2, and they offered me half the money,” Renner said. “I’m like, ‘Wow, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money?’ Do you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I was run over?'”

At the time, Renner blamed the “penny-pinchers, the accountants” at Disney and told them to “Go fly a kite.”

From Half the Jeremy to 150%

On New Year’s Day 2023 Renner suffered 38 broken bones, blunt chest trauma, and a collapsed lung while trying to prevent his snowplow from falling on his nephew. Not only was there doubt that he’d be able to return for Hawkeye Season 2, but whether he’d work at all.

“I’m more than 150% of what I was prior to the incident,” he told Empire. “Having health and wellness be such a central part of my life, that’s what’s gotten me back.”

Now that he’s back, it seems he’s ready to slip back into Hawkeye’s signature attire.

“I’m sure we’ll do season 2, and other things. And I’m happy to do it.”

Could “other things” encompass an upcoming Avengers movie (or two, or three)?

“I don’t know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights,” Renner joked.

Renner is Ready, But What About Disney?

Even before Renner publicly called Disney’s offer “insulting,” Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum was hopeful about a potential Hawkeye Season 2.

In a February 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly regarding a second season of Agatha All Along, Winderbaum said, “Hawkeye is another one that feels like you can make another season of that show… You can kind of revisit it whenever, and we’re looking for opportunities to do that.”

But with Bob Iger saying back in May that he was looking to scale back MCU projects to “probably about two TV series a year,” aiming to prioritize “quality over quantity” and avoid “superhero fatigue,” Hawkeye Season 2 may not make the cut.

Regardless of how Renner’s salary dispute plays out, Hawkeye co-star Hailee Steinfeld’s star has risen considerably in the meantime. If her contract with Disney for Hawkeye Season 2 wasn’t already locked in, Steinfeld and Disney may also face tough negotiations.

Nothing is Certain

Now that Renner is back in fighting shape and ready to talk, all that remains to be seen is if there’s room in the MCU for Hawkeye Season 2.

While nothing has been confirmed, momentum is building and we may see Marvel’s signature archer back in action.

He is WAY to old to keep doing this.
Just ruin the IP and put in a Gay Chick already. No one cares about Marvel anymore, and it’s more enjoyable to watch it burn!!!!!!!

Hawkeye should be about Hawkeye. He allowed his character to be emasculated in S1. I don’t know that anyone is in a hurry to see that again. Based on the ratings, people weren’t that into it the first time.

Despite Hawkeye being one of my favorite comic characters (West Coast Avengers 4Lyfe!) he was never much of a draw in the MCU and was completely overshadowed by the other Avengers in the movies. It didn’t help that he was so easily mind controlled by Loki right off the bat kinda making him out as a mental midget.

Anyway, I like Renner, in general. I don’t think Hawkeye has a future in the MCU, D+, or any other damn thing.
