A series of incidents on the set of a new film from Daily Wire, starring Jonathan Majors, is raising significant safety concerns. The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) had already called for a strike amid ongoing labor disputes over contributions to the union’s health and pension funds.

The latest incident, which involved Majors and co-star JC Kilcoyne falling through a window during filming, is prompting a stronger and more urgent response from union-aligned crew.

In a statement to Deadline, the film’s producer, Dallas Sonnier, said: “The entire industry is in freefall due to strikes, and now that their members are out of work, they’re trying to sabotage the few people who are still producing. We don’t negotiate with communists.”

What Happened

A video obtained by Deadline shows the actors in the moments immediately before and during the accident.

Majors and Kilcoyne are filming a scene in which their characters back toward a window with their hands raised. Sources have told Deadline that the window was replaced with an unsecured sheet of tempered glass in preparation for a stunt not involving the talent. The behind-the-scenes footage shows them falling through the opening as crew members quickly rush into the frame.

The actors reportedly fell six feet to the ground. Additionally, Kilcoyne required stitches “all over his hands.” A representative for Kilcoyne said that he “is doing well and was taken care of immediately by production.” The rep added that “JC did not feel unsafe on set and continues to have a positive experience working on the project.”

However, according to Deadline’s sources, Majors’ fall is only the most visible incident surrounding the Daily Wire production.

Additional Safety Concerns

One experienced crew member told the trade that “no normal production activities” were taking place on set during filming. Health conditions at various locations and safety protocols surrounding the use of prop firearms are also drawing scrutiny. Additionally, the special effects supervisor, Chris Bailey, is allegedly legally barred from handling explosives on productions.

A former crew member who left the Jonathan Majors project claimed that the Daily Wire and their producers do not “really care about the long-term effects on the crew.”

Union Pressure and Production Tensions

All this comes against the backdrop of ongoing tensions between IATSE and independent producers operating outside traditional studio systems. Before the incident involving Majors, more than 60% of the crew had signed union cards seeking a collective bargaining agreement. While the production remains non-union, IATSE can still become involved if crew members formally request support.

At the time, Sonnier appeared to dismiss talk about organizing efforts on set. He said that producers were “too busy being bad a**es, blowing sh*t up, flying helicopters, and killing movie terrorists to concern ourselves with four a**holes with signs on the sidewalk and their illegitimate ‘strike.'”

Whether or not the reported working conditions are being exaggerated by anonymous crew members, the video of Jonathan Majors falling through a window highlights ongoing potential risks. As the Daily Wire attempts to create a larger footprint in the entertainment industry, incidents like this may shape how both audiences and workers view its productions.
