MSNBC has officially announced the cancellation of Joy Reid’s evening program, The ReidOut, as part of an extensive network overhaul. According to sources familiar with the situation, Reid will host her final show this week, bringing an end to her run in the 7 p.m. EST slot.

Reid’s program will be replaced by a new show hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele. The trio currently co-hosts The Weekend and will now bring their dynamic to weekday primetime. Menendez’s new role marks a milestone, as she becomes the first Latina woman to anchor a primetime news program on MSNBC.

The shakeup doesn’t stop there. Under the guidance of new network president Rebecca Kutler, MSNBC is planning a broad range of programming changes affecting dayside, weekends, and primetime slots. Notably, Jen Psaki, host of Inside with Jen Psaki, is expected to receive expanded airtime, reflecting the show’s status as MSNBC’s most-watched weekend program.

Alex Wagner, who previously hosted a primetime slot, will continue as a correspondent but will not be returning to a regular evening show.

The ReidOut has recently struggled with ratings, drawing an average of 973,000 viewers in February 2025, down from 1.3 million the previous year—a significant 28% decline. This drop has sparked mixed reactions across the media landscape.

Conservative voices were quick to applaud the cancellation. Former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai mocked the situation, suggesting Reid’s limited viewership made the show’s end inevitable. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene also weighed in, stating on social media that the network’s decision was a long-overdue acknowledgment of the show’s declining influence.

On the other side, liberal commentators criticized MSNBC’s move, and most of them made it about race.

Keith Olbermann, a former MSNBC host, argued that the network’s problems go deeper than Reid’s show, blaming the leadership for weak programming decisions. Wajahat Ali pointed to what he saw as a troubling pattern, noting that “a blunt Black woman” hosting solo often faces greater scrutiny and challenges in major media roles.

Danielle Moodie, host of The New Abnormal podcast, expressed her disappointment, saying, “Every time MSNBC has a ‘shakeup,’ the Black woman-led show is always the first to go.”

Dean Obeidallah, a radio host and writer, also criticized the decision, referencing past controversies involving MSNBC’s other shows and questioning the network’s commitment to diversity.

MSNBC is also reportedly in discussions to bring on new talent, including Politico’s Eugene Daniels and NYU law professor Melissa Murray, as part of its broader strategy to diversify content. The network is expanding its Washington bureau and hiring new leadership positions in an effort to strengthen its reporting and content development.

As The ReidOut comes to a close, Joy Reid’s next steps remain uncertain. Despite the controversy surrounding her show, supporters highlighted her role in amplifying diverse voices and providing a platform for underrepresented perspectives.

As MSNBC continues its reshuffle, the impact of these changes on its audience and reputation remains to be seen.

I don’t know who this bitch is, and never heard of her show RiedOut. It’s a fitting and ironic name, since that’s what MSNBC did to her………

Bunny With A Keyboard

She worked for MSNBC. What else do you need to know?

Mad Lemming

I envy you.

Now that MSNBC isn’t trying to be woke enough to satisfy the woke anymore, we can expect them to lose the viewers they had.

Mr0303

Oh no! Not the awful diversity hire! While the MSM may remove some of the loathsome faces the people working in the background are still leftists clowns who hate you.

Mad Lemming

Reid was cut because she was no longer a revenue source and is a serious legal liability. She’s going to try and claim this is about racism and sexism and is all Donald Trump’s fault. Which I’ll give her half-credit for the last: when regular NBC settled that lawsuit over George Snuffleupagus’s defamatory comments, it was a wake-up call that they *will* be held accountable for what their employees say and do.

Other networks took note and have reined in their employees under threat of termination. Even The View has backed off and is reportedly losing morale on set over not being able to bash Trump. There’s a fine line between complaining about someone and defaming them and the woke have pole vaulted over it.
