Now that Zootopia 2 has grossed over $1 billion in two weeks, a Zootopia 3 is all but certain. One idea, from the writer’s son, is for a Keanu Reeves cameo as character called (wait for it) “Baba Llama.”

Disney’s animated film about a city of anthropomorphic animals living in relative harmony has been the biggest hit of the year. Jared Bush, the Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, co-writer of Zootopia and the writer and co-director of Zootopia 2, recently got on X to thank the global audience for coming to see the movie.
So thankful for audiences around the world going to theaters and experiencing #Zootopia2 together. To celebrate, our Z2 Q&A starts…. Now! First question… why is Nick wearing pink? Because Judy did in Z1, and we wanted to subtly show her positive influence on him! pic.twitter.com/cHiReU5wbC

In the following Q&A, Bush was asked who he would cast in a major role or cameo for the third installment. He replied that he’s a huge fan of the John Wick films and that his son has begged him to ask Keanu Reeves to play a llama based on his action movie character. “I can’t imagine a better cameo,” Bush said.

If Reeves agrees, it’s an idea so crazy it just might work.
The Baba Yaga
2014’s John Wick revived Reeves’ action movie career and spawned a new, completely original franchise. He plays a retired professional killer who returns for revenge after thugs kill his puppy. In the assassin underworld, the legendary Wick was known as “Baba Yaga,” a specter from Russian folklore.

There are four Wick movies in total (with a fifth in development). A limited-event prequel series, The Continental, was released on Peacock in 2023. Earlier this year, Ana de Armas led a John Wick spin-off, Ballerina. The movie was delayed for a year to bring Reeves in for extensive reshoots, which may have bolstered what was still a weak box office performance.
Reeves’ involvement alone doesn’t guarantee a film’s success. Last October’s Good Fortune, where he plays the angel Michael, only had a $6 million domestic opening. Still, as Wick he remains a major draw. Parodying his iconic character in Zootopia 3 is almost certain to generate buzz.
It wouldn’t be the first time Reeves has lent his voice to an animated project.
Hedgehogs and Llamas
Last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 featured Reeves borrowing Wick’s gruffness and stoicism to voice the dark and mysterious alien hedgehog Shadow. Many critics claimed he elevated the film and was the standout performance. He’s expected to return for Sonic 4 and may even be a part of the announced spin-off.

Were Disney successful in bringing him on to parody Wick as “Baba Llama” in Zootopia 3, it would give the famously good-natured action star an opportunity to riff on his most popular character of the decade. Fans of Zootopia and John Wick alike may want to see how one of cinema’s deadliest killers translates into a family film.
A Joke to Reality
Zootopia 3 hasn’t been officially greenlit, but the last movie left the door open for more stories in that world. Assuming that Bush was serious about wanting Reeves to cameo — or if fan reaction to what was only meant as joke pushes it into reality — there’s still plenty of time to sign Reeves and develop the “Baba Llama” character.

They aren’t selling this. It may make adults more inclined to pay attention to catch Keanu lines, but (hopefully) kids are totally unaware of the work Reeves has done in the last 20 years.
“Dada, who is that voice?”
“Oh, that’s from the person who did all those super violent movies where he was an assassin, you must remember when we watched those when mommy was sleeping after you were born and when, after you came home, we watched the rest of them while I rocked you your baby swing.”
