Disney has announced that a dedicated Kingdom Hearts presentation will take place during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California.
The announcement has led to questions about whether the Kingdom Hearts D23 panel could include new details about Kingdom Hearts IV.

The Kingdom Hearts panel is scheduled for August 15 at 4:30 PM PT. The session will focus on the history of the franchise and its development over the years.

Disney has not announced a complete guest lineup for the panel. The company also has not confirmed whether the presentation will include game announcements, trailers, or release information.
Kingdom Hearts IV Remains the Next Major Release
Interest surrounding the D23 appearance is closely connected to Kingdom Hearts IV. Square Enix announced the game in April 2022 during the franchise’s 20th anniversary celebration.
The reveal introduced a new setting called Quadratum and showed protagonist Sora following the events of Kingdom Hearts III.

In May 2025, Square Enix released new screenshots from Kingdom Hearts IV. The company confirmed that work on the game was continuing and thanked players for their patience. The update did not include a release schedule.
What the D23 Appearance Could Mean for Kingdom Hearts IV
The Kingdom Hearts D23 panel arrives just two months after Square Enix released a new gameplay teaser for Kingdom Hearts IV. That trailer offered the most substantial look at the game since its reveal in 2022. It showed Sora exploring Quadratum and battling Heartless, while also highlighting updated visuals and combat.
The timing has led many to wonder whether Disney and Square Enix could continue that momentum during D23. The event is Disney’s largest fan convention and regularly features presentations on films, television, theme parks, and games connected to the company’s brands. Because Kingdom Hearts is a collaboration between Disney and Square Enix, D23 provides a natural setting to discuss the franchise.
The panel itself will focus on the history of Kingdom Hearts and the people behind the series. Disney has not announced that Kingdom Hearts IV will be part of the presentation. Even so, the combination of a recent gameplay teaser and a dedicated D23 panel has made the event a point of interest for those following the game’s development.
The History Behind Kingdom Hearts’ Development
The Kingdom Hearts franchise began as a collaboration between Disney Interactive and Square Enix, then known as Squaresoft. The original game launched for PlayStation 2 in 2002 and introduced Sora, alongside Donald Duck and Goofy as they traveled between Disney-inspired worlds.
Over time, the series expanded with numbered releases, handheld titles, collections, and spin-off games. Kingdom Hearts III arrived in 2019 after years of development and became the conclusion of the series’ original “Dark Seeker Saga.”

Following that release, Square Enix shifted attention toward the next phase of the story. Kingdom Hearts IV is expected to continue that transition while introducing new elements to the franchise.
Looking Ahead for Kingdom Hearts
The upcoming panel arrives during an important period for the franchise as Square Enix continues development on Kingdom Hearts IV. The series remains one of the company’s most recognizable partnerships with Disney, combining familiar characters with original storytelling.
For now, the confirmed information is that D23 will feature a dedicated Kingdom Hearts presentation focused on the franchise and its creators. Whether the event also includes new details about Kingdom Hearts IV remains unknown, but the panel provides a new opportunity for the series to return to the spotlight.
