Financial analyst Valliant Renegade declared the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World film a “disaster” after new rumors claim Marvel Studios is doing massive reshoots for the film.

According to MarvelNewsFilms on X, scooper Daniel RPK reports “Captain America: Brave New World will be undergoing reshoots from May until August.”
Valliant Renegade reacted to this rumor writing on X, “What a disaster… that’s gotta be another easy $100M+ in budget overruns right there. 60-90 days is enough to reshoot this ENTIRE film.”

Daniel RPK’s rumor about reshoots is not new. YouTuber Overlord DVD recently shared a rumor from one of his sources that the film was shooting based off notes while a script was being rewritten.
He relayed, “They are more convinced that Cap 4 doesn’t have a script. They say that what they are doing is shooting from a notebook that has notes on what they are supposed to do. According to the director this is a way of getting ahead of themselves while they wait for the official script.”
Overlord DVD continued, “This came from the director himself as the director and Anthony [Mackie] were in another heated discussion over the way the reshoots were being handled. It’s unclear just how long it will take to complete the rewrite. It is very clear to our source that Anthony’s biggest concern is this movie may get cancelled.
Scooper CanWeGetToast also previously claimed in November that “Marvel is allegedly planning up to 6 months of reshoots with multiple sequences being cut or reworked.

There was also a previous rumor from 4Chan that claimed the film’s test screenings were disastrous. An anonymous user who claimed to have seen one of the test screenings claimed, “So it’s just come out publicly that Captain America: Brave New World had some disastrous early screenings.”
The user would go on to reveal significant plot details and claimed much of the film is an allegory about President Donald Trump.

As Valliant Renegade points out these reshoots are going to be extremely costly and could be upwards of $100 million. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has pissed away much of its good will that it earned via solid films that $800 million global box office hauls are no longer guaranteed. Thus it is imperative for the studio to keep costs down in order for films to be profitable at the box office.
One need only look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s performance in 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania grossed $463.6 million worldwide back in February last year. However, the film had an estimated production budget of $200 million. That means the film needed to make at least $500 million to break even. It didn’t.

The Marvels did even worse. The film failed to break the $200 million mark worldwide, only grossing $199 million. It’s production budget is currently listed at $274 million, but that doesn’t include the reshoots it underwent last year.
Regardless, even at the $274 million budget mark the film would need to bring in at least $685 million worldwide. It didn’t.
The only film that did seemingly make the studio money was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It grossed $845.4 million globally. It had an estimated budget of $250 million meaning it needed to gross at least $625 million to break even.

These increased costs are something that has come under scrutiny by Disney investors and highlighted by Nelson Peltz as he wages a proxy battle for two board positions at The Walt Disney Company, Marvel Studios’ parent company.
On the Restore the Magic website, Peltz notes that one of the major problems affecting The Walt Disney Company is “studio creativity.” In order to correct this problem, Peltz suggests a “board-led review of creative processes and structure to restore leadership accountability and reclaim #1 box office position with leading economics.”

What do you make of Captain America: Brave New World undergoing nearly 3-months of reshoots and racking up even more costs for a film that is unlikely to gross above $800 million worldwide?

Looks like YADD – Yet Another Disney Disaster. Every one of these crap movies seems like a scramble situation where nobody has any clue what they’re doing, with an end result that’s patchworked together, and they’re wasting millions they’ll never get back. lol
It’s like they just hate money and can’t get rid of it fast enough
I mean, going by the original budget of The Marvels, and the cast list, I would expect Captain America 4 to have had an original budget of 200 million+ before marketing. If they’re undergoing months of reshoots, the budget is likely going to balloon to 300 million+. If we assume 100 million in marketing, and the theaters cut, this film will need to make 700 million+ to break even. That is literally NEVER going to happen. I think this film will be lucky to gross 300 million worldwide, with less than 100 million of that coming from domestic showings. The fact that Marvel seems to be releasing this film in Feb 2025 leads me to believe that Marvel knows how bad this film is going to be – who releases a major superhero film in February? It’s not exactly a date night movie for Valentine’s Day. This movie is well and truly f-ed in terms of profitability. Marvel would be smart to cancel the reshoots, and the entire film. That way they’d only lose what they put into it so far, instead of compounding the issue by spending more, only to lose more.
