After Marvel’s tumultuous announcement that Jake Schreier will be directing the X-Men reboot film, it seems the ever patient fans might finally have some good news, as an alleged release date has been revealed. According to a report from World of Reel, Jeff Sneider shared on The Hot Mic that Marvel’s X-Men is set to release at the beginning of the summer season, on May 5, 2028.
In what appears to be a symbolic choice, this release date sets the launch of the film — and the new timeline — just three days after the 20th anniversary of Iron Man — the inaugural installment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A New Beginning for Marvel
After Endagme, it seems Marvel just wants to move on to something fresh, and tread new ground which fans have never experienced before. It’s no secret that the once-legendary franchise has been struggling recently; with newer releases allegedly losing millions of dollars each. The Disney-owned media giant is likely hoping for some big wins in order to keep operations going.

As the universe is being reset, none of the old X-Men cast is expected to return, so the 2028 superhero ensemble film will feature a whole new roster of actors. According to a conversation between Marvel president Kevin Feige and multiple news outlets, the film is apparently going to focus on the mutants in their younger years.
Feige also shared his perspective on the X-Men comics.
“They have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they don’t belong,” he told the press. “That’s the universal story of mutants, and that is where we’re going.”

The company head also made sure to clarify that he doesn’t want this to be considered a “reboot.”
“Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people,” he said. “Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.”
The “reset” will be written by Michael Lesslie, who is most famous for his work on The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, as well as his critically acclaimed 2015 adaptation of Macbeth.
Crushing Fancast Rumors
With the lack of general information on the project, excitable fans have been spreading rumors online. These rumors generally stem from harmless theories on potential casting choices, though some of these have been met with thorough refutation. One notable case was when multiple sources stated that Margaret Qualley of The Substance was in talks to play as Rogue in the upcoming movie, but this theory was quashed by the actress herself.

In an interview with Collider earlier this year, Qualley was asked if she would ever want to join a major franchise, and if she could pick, which one would she choose.
“I don’t think I want to commit to a franchise,” she said. “It seems like a lot of time, and I’m scared.”

Some fans are holding out hope, though, and believe that this could be a clever coverup by the studio. While the movie is still three years out, we’ll likely have to wait before we get any further news regarding the MCU X-Men.

We’ll see, but I think the audience has moved on from risking their $50 movie visits on Marvel movies. X-Men is still one of the biggest draws when it comes to western comics, so there might be something there but it depends on which characters they focus on and which era.
OG X-men with Beast, Iceman, and Angel might be interesting but I doubt they have the draw the Wolverine/Jean Gray X-Men from 93+
