A confirmed case of measles has been linked to a recent visit to Disneyland, prompting Orange County health officials to issue a public warning and urge guests to check their vaccination status.

According to a press release issued January 31, 2026, the OC Health Care Agency (HCA) confirmed that an international traveler who arrived at Los Angeles International Airport later visited multiple locations at the Disneyland Resort while infectious. The case was reported to Orange County by both the California Department of Public Health and the Los Angeles Department of Public Health.

Health officials say individuals who were present at Disneyland during specific time windows may be at risk of exposure.

Locations and Exposure Windows at Disneyland

The OC Health Care Agency identified the following locations and times associated with the measles exposure:

  • Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park: 12:30 p.m. to park closing

The exposure occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

People who were at these locations during the listed times are advised to monitor for symptoms for 7 to 21 days following exposure, which is the typical incubation period for measles.

Health Officials Urge Guests to Verify Immunity

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through the air and can linger in enclosed spaces after an infected person leaves. Symptoms commonly include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that typically begins on the face before spreading.

The OC Health Care Agency is urging anyone who may have been exposed at Disneyland to take the following steps:

  • Check immunity status, particularly if vaccination records are unclear
  • Contact a healthcare provider if not fully immunized against measles
  • Monitor for symptoms between 7 and 21 days after exposure
  • Call ahead before visiting any medical facility if symptoms develop, to avoid exposing others

Health officials note that people who are fully vaccinated with two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine are generally considered protected.

At-Risk Groups

The HCA emphasized that certain individuals face higher risk from measles exposure, including infants under 12 months, pregnant individuals without immunity, and people with weakened immune systems. In some cases, immune globulin may be recommended as a preventive measure if exposure occurred recently.

Adults born before 1957 or those who previously had measles are generally considered immune.

Disneyland Working With Health Officials

The OC Health Care Agency confirmed that it’s working with Disneyland to notify employees who may have been exposed during the identified time frame. Additional exposure information related to Los Angeles County, including LAX, has been published separately by Los Angeles County health officials.

Dr. Anissa Davis, Deputy County Health Officer, warned that measles outbreaks are not limited to international travelers.

“Measles doesn’t only affect people who travel internationally—everyone is at risk if they’re not protected,” Davis said in the release.

Rising Measles Cases Nationwide

The warning comes amid a broader resurgence of measles cases in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have already been 588 confirmed measles cases nationwide as of January 30, 2026—just one month into the year.

By comparison, 2025 recorded 2,267 cases, the highest annual total in more than three decades.

What Guests Should Do Now

Anyone who visited Disneyland during the exposure window and is unsure of their vaccination status is encouraged to contact a healthcare provider promptly. Orange County residents with questions can also reach the HCA Health Referral Line at 1 (800) 564-8448 during weekday business hours.

For families and travelers, the incident serves as a reminder that Disneyland’s global appeal—drawing visitors from around the world—also carries public health considerations, particularly during periods of increased measles activity.

As of now, health officials have not reported additional confirmed cases linked to the Disneyland measles exposure.
