Merlin Entertainments and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences announced on December 1, 2025, that a “LEGO Harry Potter”–themed land will be built at the LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort theme park in Günzburg, Germany.

The companies state that this will be the first LEGO-format Harry Potter land. The resort will also offer the first officially themed Harry Potter guest accommodations. Merlin reports that the project represents its largest single investment in an existing site.

“We are always looking for new ways for the millions of Harry Potter fans around the world to extend the magic,” Peter van Roden, EVP of Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences said. “This new destination will allow fans to step into the familiar LEGO Harry Potter aesthetic they have been constructing for years and physically experience the wizarding world like never before.”

What Is Known — And What Remains Undisclosed

The companies have confirmed several core elements of the project. The new land will combine the LEGO brand’s visual identity with locations and themes drawn from the Harry Potter universe. The resort will introduce Harry Potter–themed accommodations, which will allow guests to stay in rooms inspired by the franchise. This will be the first Harry Potter lodging of its kind.

These additions reflect an effort to encourage longer visits and to offer more varied experiences on the property. The public announcements emphasize that the project is central to the long-term growth of LEGOLAND Deutschland and that it is designed to strengthen the resort’s position as a multi-day destination. Additionally, adding this new area is another step in LEGOLAND’s plan of becoming a “mega-resort.”

However, many specifics remain undisclosed. No opening date or construction timeline has been released. The companies have not detailed which attractions, shows, or interactive environments will appear in the land, and no concept art or layout plans have been shared. It’s also unknown whether the new accommodations will be created through new construction or through re-theming of existing hotel facilities. The absence of design details suggests that the project is still early in its development process, and more concrete information is expected to emerge at a later stage.

Broader Context: A Diversified Franchise Strategy

The development fits into a broader strategy by Merlin Entertainments to expand the use of well-known intellectual properties at its resorts.

Combining LEGO with Harry Potter may help the resort appeal to families who already associate LEGOLAND parks with imaginative play. The project may also raise the global profile of LEGOLAND Deutschland. It positions the resort as a destination offering more than traditional LEGO-based attractions.

This direction also reflects a shift for the franchise itself. The Harry Potter brand is beginning to appear in varied formats across different operators. The new land shows that future real-world installations may not follow a single model or partner.

Significance and Possible Impacts

The project carries several implications for the global theme-park industry. It ends the long stretch during which Universal was the only operator of large Harry Potter lands. It creates new room for design approaches that depart from film-inspired environments. The LEGO format may offer a more playful experience that suits younger visitors.

It also signals a shift in how Warner Bros. manages its intellectual property. Licensing the brand more widely may allow new markets and audiences to engage with the franchise. For Merlin Entertainments and LEGOLAND Deutschland, the investment could increase attendance and strengthen the resort’s visibility within Europe and beyond.

Conclusion

The creation of a “LEGO Harry Potter” theme park land at LEGOLAND Deutschland marks a notable change in how the franchise will appear in such locations. A non-Universal operator will build a major destination featuring the wizarding world, presented in a LEGO-based style.

The addition of themed accommodations broadens the scope of the project. While many details remain undisclosed, the development points toward a more diverse and wide-reaching future for Harry Potter experiences worldwide.
