A new report claims Disney could eventually remove Matterhorn Bobsleds from its current location at Disneyland and rebuild the attraction elsewhere in the park.
The report connects the possibility to Disney’s plans to reimagine Tomorrowland. Disney announced the project at D23 in August 2026, saying Walt Disney Imagineering is developing new attractions, more open spaces and other changes for the land.
Disney has not announced a plan to demolish or relocate Matterhorn Bobsleds, but the rumors have spread nonetheless. So where is the rumors coming from and are they really going to remove Disneyland’s first rollercoaster and the world’s first tubular steel coaster?
What Disney Has Announced for Tomorrowland
Disney announced the Tomorrowland reimagining on August 16, 2026 as well as at this year’s D23. The company said Imagineers have begun developing the next phase of the land, with plans for new attractions, more open spaces and additional experiences.

Disney also said the transformation will honor Tomorrowland’s existing legacy while changing the land for the future. The company has not released a detailed construction plan or identified every attraction that could be affected.
Why the Matterhorn Is Being Discussed
For Tomorrowland to be reimagined, Disneyland is likely going to need more space.
Matterhorn Bobsleds occupies a position between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Its proximity to Tomorrowland makes it a prime candidate to be moved for the new renovations next door.
Additionally, since the ride dates back to Disneyland’s opening on June 14, 1959, the ride is due for some updates. Matterhorn Bobsleds is notorious for just how bumpy and jarring the ride is. Perhaps Disney could fix two problems at the same time.

Though no new locations for the ride have been confirmed by Disney, WDW News Today suggested the move could be as simple as relocating it a little closer to “it’s a small world” across the path.
Other Possibilities
That said, it is not so simple moving a mountain. So, even though rumors suggest that Disneyland is considering moving the Matterhorn, it has other options as well.
Disneyland vlogger @sometimescastles suggested some nearby attractions that may be removed instead.

In his video, he mentions three other possibilities. Disney could remove the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, since it does not serves less guests per hour. Disneyland could also remove or repurpose Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. A final option is Autopia in Tomorrowland. Although Disney likely will not remove the ride since it recently promised to transition to all electric vehicles, they could potentially move the tracks to optimize space.
What We Know
Recent rumors suggest Disneyland is actively considering demolishing and rebuilding the Matterhorn Bobsleds elsewhere. This could provide more space as they reimagine Tomorrowland. However, the park also has other possibilities when considering how to make space for the new project.
Time will tell the fate of the Matterhorn and other Disneyland attractions.
What do you think of the Matterhorn Bobsleds? Should Disney rebuild it and smooth the track? Or should they leave one of the opening day attractions where it stands? Sound off and let us know your thoughts.
