The Huntr/X trio, and Sony Animation, are at it again. With a sequel set for 2029 still years away, a new KPop Demon Hunters short has been revealed. According to a listing by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), a new animated short titled Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story has been rated PG, suggesting that it may be released soon.
Clues on What to Expect
At this point in time, the only conclusive details we have to go on come from the MPA. The rating report notes “some action/violence and scary images,” indicating the short likely retains the supernatural and combat themes of the original film. The studio has not disclosed a release date, runtime, or plot synopsis. Studio or distributor representatives have not issued a formal announcement offering those details.

However, there are lots of clues as to what may be featured. With this being a “Debut,” the short will likely explore when the Huntr/X band first began their journey of demon-fighting and KPop stardom. Does that mean we may get a new song?
Additionally, we already know from the writers, Appelhans and Kang, that they have a lot of backstory that could not fit into the original 90-minute movie. Perhaps we will get a few more answers to our questions.

Why was Zoey in the U.S., and what brought her back to South Korea? What is going on with Mira’s family? Given that Celine was a former demon hunter and mentor to Rumi, it is likely we will see more their dynamic. Will we find out what happened to Rumi’s parents? We’ve just gotten a little bit more confirmed from the newly released Art of KPop Demon Hunters. But there is much still left unanswered. Maybe we won’t have to wait all the way for the 2029 sequel to find out.
Implications for the Franchise’s Future
The existence of a PG‑rated short suggests that the creators are interested in expanding the world of KPop Demon Hunters beyond the initial film. A short could serve as a narrative bridge or exploration of back‑story, potentially helping maintain audience interest during a longer gap before a sequel comes out.

However, without official confirmation of content or timing, it is difficult to predict how significant the short will be in the broader narrative — it might be a minor supplemental piece, or it could lay important groundwork for future installments. Until more details emerge, the short remains a teaser of possibilities rather than a confirmed storytelling step.
Thanks to the Fans on Spotify
On December 3, 2025, the distributor for KPop Demon Hunters released a brief animated video featuring HUNTR/X expressing gratitude to listeners. In the clip — roughly 10 seconds long — the fictional trio thanks fans for streaming the film’s soundtrack throughout the year.
Initially, Spotify showed the clip to users whose “top artist” of the year was HUNTR/X. Shortly afterward, the video surfaced on social media platforms, allowing a broader audience to view it regardless of their Wrapped stats.
The release of this video coincides with the major streaming success of the film’s soundtrack. According to Spotify’s year‑end Wrapped 2025 report, the soundtrack was the second most‑streamed album globally. The group’s song Golden ranked seventh on Spotify’s global list of most‑streamed songs in 2025.
The trio thanks their “hunters” for supporting the music, with Zoey remarking that the fans “loved Golden‘ more than I love turtles.” A subtle but interesting detail is that Rumi retains what looks like the faint scars of her demon markings on her forehead and neck. Another clue for what is in store? Guess we will have to wait for the next Huntr/X show.
Conclusion — What We Know So Far
Sony appears to be working on a Huntr/X short to tease the fans while a sequel is in production.

Between that, the small Spotify clip, and the artwork book, it looks like KPop Demon Hunters is not planning to fade anytime soon.
