The Disney Walkout group, which is organizing TWDC employees in efforts to walk out of their jobs / roles on March 22nd, has released the internal statement from the TWDC LGBTQIA+ Advisory Council. This statement was provided to Disney employees and is generated by Disney employees with positions of power within the company. The statement is the first confirmation that the Disney Walkout organization and walkout effort are being orchestrated by Disney leadership, although seemingly not by Bob Chapek or the Board. It reads as follows:
The TWDC LGBTQIA+ Advisory Council, made up of BERG leadership, and those within the Disney Walkout movement would like to address our coworkers together.
A movement divided is a movement doomed to rip apart at the seams. We are most powerful when we stand together. We want to dissuade any perception that we are not a unified front pushing for the change we all want to see, both in the world and internally at Disney.
Together we are working through many avenues to create the greatest possibilities for change. While our tactics may differ, our objective is the same to advocate for LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. Complementing each other is where we find our strength. Helping each other is where we find our courage. Being open with each other is where we find our hearts. We hope this encourages you as it did for us, to get inolved, to find that strength, and to find that heart as a proud community here at Disney.
Change has long been sought and is long overdue. We are here for each other, and we are here for our community. We are mindful of the challenges facing our colleagues in Florida, but also across the country and globally, especially our transgender and BIOPC siblings. Sometimes it’s hard to see the magic of the world when there are those who seek to destroy it. But in our little corner of the universe, we have the power to effect change. WE are the magic, and we should never, ever, forget that!
The Disney Pride employee groups sent these words to our co-workers internally.
We here felt it was also necessary to share externally to help clear up any notions that we are not working towards change together.#DisneyDoBetter #DisneySayTrans #DisneySayGay #WhereIsChapek pic.twitter.com/1c9IEAerY8
