The illusion is broken at Animal Kingdom Lodge due to a nearby non-Disney construction… and we’re just amazed Disney hasn’t tried to fix it yet.
Waterstar Orlando is coming and it’s going in as close to Animal Kingdom Lodge as you can get. The Disney Deluxe Resort and Disney Vacation Club destination is dependent on heavy theming to make guests feel that they are in Africa. But instead, the new neighbor is coming so close that we are now getting confirmation Disney’s theme is about to be greatly spoiled. Though Jambo House and its parking lot are still secluded from the outside, non-Disney world, DVC members are going to have quite the view into non-Disney apartment complexes unless Disney takes extraordinary steps to hide it. The better option clearly would have been to have purchased the thirty-five acres once they became available.

We covered the situation in December, but now things are becoming much more visible.
A new development is going under construction and it is as close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge as you can get. The construction is literally about a tree’s width from guest roadways in Animal Kingdom’s Lodge… and the question now is how Disney might be able to maintain immersion with multi-story residential structures adjacent to the parking lot. The whole idea behind the Lodge is to make guests feel as if they are in Africa. That’s going to be quite difficult with Waterstar Orlando putting in a multi-purpose development so close.

View from the Animal Kingdom Lodge Parking Lot now…

Note the concrete pillars going up for the future apartment buildings.
It may be a bit difficult to see in the photos, but basically if you drive to the DVC section of Animal Kingdom Lodge, the horizon is wide open with a view of fast food restaurants, apartments, and all the real-world stuff that is out there. Hopefully Disney will put up heavy foliage soon but so far they have yet to take action. That means the illusion is strongly spoiled and it is a shame they haven’t taken care of it yet.
