Aerial photographs of Universal Studios Florida reveal that major construction has begun on the site once occupied by Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, even though Universal has not yet announced what the replacement attraction will be.
Closure and Demolition
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit permanently closed on August 18, 2025, following a final day of operation on August 17. Within days, construction walls were erected around the ride entrance.

Demolition proceeded quickly. By late August and early September, photos show workers removing large sections of track, including the non-inverted loop and station structures. According to reporting, by mid-October, the lift tower and last visible track pieces had been dismantled.
On October 21, 2025, Universal announced that the coaster had been “officially demolished.”
Signs of a New Project
Concurrently with demolition, aerial images show new construction activity in the area. On the construction site, large circular concrete footers have been installed and are visible in several areas. Reinforced with rebar, these footers are typical for supporting the vertical and lateral loads of a roller coaster. These footers are visible across the cleared site, including areas now walled off behind Universal’s Hard Rock Café and portions of CityWalk.

Construction walls and cleared land suggest a substantial build is underway. The site preparation appears to involve both backstage zones and guest-facing areas, implying that the future attraction may be integrated into walkways or visible parts of the park.
In addition to the footers, sheet‐foundation work is underway. Observers have noted rectangular flat concrete pads under construction, which could form the base for substantial structural elements such as a station building or service structure. Work is progressing in areas that appear to once have been unused land, extending the site footprint beyond what the former coaster occupied.

Permits filed by Universal further illuminate the scale and ambition of the replacement project. A City of Orlando permit describes a 39,036‑square-foot, two‑story building on the site. This type of building footprint could accommodate a multi‑level coaster station, maintenance rooms, or other ride-related infrastructure. The permit also references site utilities, such as storm water, mechanical systems, and fire suppression — indicating a permanent, large-scale build.
What Is Known — and What Is Not
Universal has not publicly announced any details about the replacement ride. Media outlets note that permits filed by the resort describe a “remove existing attraction and replace with proposed attraction.”

Speculation from industry watchers and theme‑park media suggests the replacement could be a roller coaster, given the scale of the foundations. However, no official manufacturer, layout, or theme has been confirmed.
Looking Forward
Observers expect that track installation could begin in the months ahead, though Universal has not shared a public timeline for a grand opening. Based on the pace of the current work, some analysts tentatively project a debut in 2026 or 2027 — but these remain unverified.

For now, the visible concrete infrastructure and cleared land offer the strongest evidence that Universal is building something significant on the former Rockit site. Until the company provides more information, fans and observers will continue to watch closely.
