South Park celebrated its latest Emmy victory by once again mocking one of its favorite recent subjects: President Donald Trump.
The long-running Comedy Central series won Outstanding Animated Program Sunday night at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for “Sermon On The ’Mount,” the controversial Season 27 premiere that placed Trump at the center of the show’s satire.

Rather than simply celebrate the victory, the official South Park social media account used the occasion to make another joke at the president’s expense.
The show shared an image of its animated version of Trump in a degrading situation while triumphantly holding an Emmy statue above his head.
“You finally got your Emmy!” reads the text above Trump.
“Congratulations to Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and the entire South Park team on their Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program!” the account added.

The joke references Trump’s own history with the television awards. The Apprentice, which listed Trump as an executive producer, received Outstanding Reality-Competition Program nominations in both 2004 and 2005 but lost on both occasions.
South Park’s Renewed Focus on Trump
While the post continues the show’s recent mockery of Trump, it is also a direct reference to the episode that earned South Park its latest Emmy.
“Sermon On The ’Mount” depicted the president in an intimate relationship with Satan and concluded with a digitally created sequence that can only be described as demeaning and mean-spirited. Variety called the Season 27 premiere “one of the most explicit and politically charged episodes in the series’ history.”
The episode also marked the beginning of a renewed political focus for the series, with Trump becoming a recurring character throughout Seasons 27 and 28.

The approach drew considerable attention and prompted a response from the White House following the premiere. However, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have rejected the suggestion that South Park suddenly transformed into a political program.
Last November, Parker argued that politics itself has increasingly become part of popular culture.
“It’s like the government is just in your face everywhere you look,” Parker said. “Whether it’s the actual government or whether it is all the podcasters and the TikToks and the YouTubes and all of that, and it’s just all political and political because it’s more than political. It’s pop culture.”
Emmy Win Draws Criticism
Notably, South Park had not won Outstanding Animated Program since 2013, when it received the award for “Raising the Bar.” The show previously won the category in 2005, 2007, and 2009, bringing its total to five Emmys.
Some fans and critics online do not credit the latest win to renewed creativity or quality. Instead, they argue that the recognition reflects the show’s increasingly one-sided political focus.

“They couldn’t win an Emmy when they were apolitical and made fun of every race, religion, political viewpoint, etc,” another added. “But magically the left indoctrinated Emmy Awards praised South Park (it’s hilarious) and gave them an Emmy after years of Trump bashing seasons.”

The criticism also comes during an unusual year for the Emmys. Bad Bunny’s controversial Super Bowl halftime show received seven awards despite lower overall viewership than the previous year’s halftime show, while The Late Show with Stephen Colbert collected six awards for productions associated with its final season after CBS announced the show’s cancellation.
None of that proves Emmy voters are rewarding particular political viewpoints. However, the collection of victories will undoubtedly reinforce perceptions among some viewers that Hollywood’s awards increasingly reflect the priorities and preferences of the entertainment industry itself rather than those of the broader audience.
