Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially rewritten the box office record books before its opening weekend has even begun.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ latest Spider-Man film earned an astonishing $72 million in domestic preview screenings, including Wednesday early access showings, making it the biggest preview haul in movie history. In doing so, it surpassed the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame, which brought in $60 million from Thursday previews back in 2019.
Spider-Man Crushes Avengers: Endgame’s Longstanding Record
According to Variety, Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $72 million in previews, eclipsing the $60 million record established by Avengers: Endgame.
That represents a staggering 20% increase over one of the most anticipated films ever released.

For years, many assumed Endgame‘s preview record would stand indefinitely. Instead, Brand New Day has shattered it by a comfortable margin.
The performance also dwarfs nearly every other superhero release in history and immediately positions the film as one of the biggest theatrical launches Hollywood has ever seen.
Opening Weekend Could Reach Historic Heights
The record-breaking preview numbers have dramatically increased expectations for the weekend.
Current projections reportedly place the domestic opening between $260 million and $280 million, although some industry analysts believe the film could climb past $300 million if audience momentum continues throughout the weekend.
Sony has publicly offered a more conservative estimate in the $190–195 million range, but those projections now appear increasingly cautious in light of Thursday’s massive turnout.

Internationally, estimates suggest another $275 million to $300 million could be added overseas during opening weekend.
If those figures hold, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would debut with well over half a billion dollars worldwide, with some analysts speculating the global opening could approach $800 million or more if international markets significantly overperform.
Brand New Day Did It Without IMAX
What makes this Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office record even more remarkable is that it achieved these unprecedented preview numbers without the benefit of IMAX screens.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continues to occupy IMAX auditoriums across North America, preventing Sony’s latest Spider-Man film from taking advantage of the premium format that typically drives higher ticket prices and boosts opening weekend grosses.

In other words, Brand New Day wasn’t setting records with every premium format at its disposal. Instead, it posted the largest preview gross in movie history despite losing access to one of the industry’s biggest revenue generators.
Had IMAX screens been available, the preview total likely would have been even higher.
That reality makes the $72 million opening even more extraordinary. Rather than relying on premium format surcharges, audiences turned out in overwhelming numbers for standard and other premium screenings, demonstrating just how enormous demand for Tom Holland’s return as Spider-Man has become.
Spider-Man Continues To Be Marvel’s Biggest Box Office Draw
The success also reinforces a trend that has become impossible to ignore.
Tom Holland’s previous Spider-Man films have consistently ranked among Marvel’s strongest theatrical performers.
Spider-Man: No Way Home became one of the biggest films in history after earning nearly $1.92 billion worldwide, despite releasing during the COVID era.

Now Brand New Day appears poised to deliver another enormous success.
The film picks up after the events of No Way Home, with the world having forgotten Peter Parker’s identity. Holland returns alongside Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, while Sadie Sink joins the franchise in a major new role.
Sony’s Partnership Continues To Pay Off
The record is also another reminder of the unusual arrangement behind the Tom Holland Spider-Man films.
Although Spider-Man exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Kevin Feige serves as a producer, these movies remain Sony Pictures productions.

That partnership has now delivered another box office phenomenon.
With Brand New Day already setting records before its first full day in theaters, attention now turns toward whether the film can challenge Avengers: Endgame‘s all-time domestic opening weekend record of $357 million.
Even if it ultimately falls short of that mark, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already secured its place in box office history after delivering the biggest preview performance the industry has ever seen.
