Sunny Hostin Predicts Texas Will Turn Blue as Democrats Eye Major Senate Upset

The View co-host Sunny Hostin is predicting a major political shift in Texas, declaring that Democrats will capture a U.S. Senate seat in November and potentially end more than three decades of Republican dominance in statewide elections.

During Thursday’s episode of ABC’s daytime talk show, Hostin expressed confidence that Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico would defeat Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, pointing to recent polling showing the Democrat ahead.

According to a report published by the New York Post, Hostin told her fellow panelists: “I think we will. I think we will see Texas go blue, actually. I really do.”

Hostin continued by citing September polling that placed Talarico ahead of Paxton by six percentage points, 51% to 45%.

“That is so significant given that a Democrat hasn’t won statewide office in 30 years,” Hostin explained.

She also highlighted Talarico’s reported advantages among women, younger voters, and Hispanic voters before confidently declaring, “He’s going to win this race.”

Polling Gives Democrats Reason for Optimism

Unlike some speculative predictions about Texas turning Democratic, Hostin’s comments come amid polling that indicates a genuinely competitive Senate contest.

A Fox News poll conducted September 24–28 placed Talarico ahead 51% to 49% among likely voters, although that two-point advantage fell within the survey’s margin of error.

The RealClearPolling average covering September 12 through October 5 similarly showed Talarico leading Paxton 48.1% to 45.3%.

Nevertheless, polling advantages don’t automatically translate into electoral victories, particularly in a state where Republicans have maintained statewide electoral dominance for decades.

President Donald Trump carried Texas by approximately 14 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election. Furthermore, winning one Senate contest wouldn’t necessarily mean Texas had undergone a broader political realignment.

The View Blames Trump for Republican Difficulties

Hostin wasn’t the only panelist suggesting Republicans could face trouble in November.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that the competitive Senate race reflected growing frustration with President Trump’s administration.

“I mean, the fact that Texas is in play speaks to the moment right now that people are so frustrated with the current leadership,” Griffin said.

She described the situation as a “perfect storm” while acknowledging that either candidate could still emerge victorious.

Griffin also suggested Republicans would have been better positioned with Senator John Cornyn as their nominee rather than Paxton, who secured the Republican nomination with Trump’s endorsement.

Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg and Ana Navarro urged caution about treating favorable polling as a guaranteed Democratic victory.

Navarro referenced the unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election while warning against complacency.

Republicans Respond to Hostin’s Prediction

The Republican National Committee offered a considerably less enthusiastic assessment of the discussion.

RNC spokesman Zach Kraft delivered a pointed response to Fox News Digital, questioning the political judgment of Hostin and Griffin.

“Anyone taking seriously what Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin say about politics likely has a low enough IQ to qualify as a guest host on The View,” Kraft declared.

Meanwhile, President Trump campaigned alongside Paxton in San Antonio this week as Republicans worked to consolidate support ahead of November.

The race has also attracted attention because of Talarico’s recent absence from in-person campaign events. His campaign attributed the absence to influenza and said he would resume campaigning this weekend.

With Election Day approaching on November 3, the question remains whether the polling reflects a lasting shift in Texas voters’ preferences or a narrower contest shaped by the two candidates.

Sunny Hostin has made her prediction clear, byt Texas voters will have the final say.
