A behind-the-scenes photo making the rounds online has sparked speculation that David Corenswet’s Superman may appear in Season 2 of Peacemaker.

The image shows Corenswet in full Superman costume standing alongside John Cena, who reprises his role as the crude, violent vigilante Peacemaker. Cena is wearing the same shirt seen in last night’s third episode, further fueling suspicions that the Man of Steel is making his way into James Gunn’s HBO series sooner rather than later.

Whether the photo was a promotional stunt, a friendly set visit, or an actual crossover shoot, the possibility of Superman appearing in Peacemaker is raising eyebrows. The combination of Superman and Peacemaker may make sense to Gunn, who is attempting to weave all his DC projects into one unified world. But for fans, the tonal whiplash is already cause for concern.

Filming Overlap Fuels Speculation

James Gunn himself has confirmed that Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 filmed around the same time in Atlanta. To manage his responsibilities, Gunn shot Superman during the week and handled Peacemaker shoots on weekends. That arrangement left little room for actors to casually wander from one production to the other — especially not in full costume.

Corenswet’s Superman suit is tightly controlled, used only on camera or during promotional shoots. Seeing him wear it alongside Cena strongly suggests there was at least some form of coordinated filming between the two projects. If true, audiences may see Superman step into Peacemaker’s foul-mouthed, hyper-violent world — a prospect that is already dividing fans.

Of course, Peacemaker also appeared briefly in Superman, but he was dressed in his full costume at the time and never shared the screen with Corenswet.

A Family Hero in a TV-MA World

Superman’s appeal has always been his accessibility. This summer, Corenswet’s portrayal earned the character a new wave of young fans who embraced the bright, hopeful vision of the Man of Steel. Linking that same character to Peacemaker, a series infamous for its graphic violence, crude humor, and even full-frontal nudity, raises a serious question: is this responsible storytelling?

Superman Flying

Unlike darker characters such as Deadpool, who are built around shock humor and gore, Superman is traditionally a symbol of hope meant for audiences of all ages. Placing him in a TV-MA show risks confusing viewers, particularly families who may accidentally follow Superman into content designed for adults only. It’s the very definition of brand collision — one that Warner Bros. Discovery and James Gunn may not have fully considered.

Gunn’s Gamble

James Gunn has long been known for blurring the lines between “comedy,” violence, and heartfelt storytelling. Peacemaker thrives on this mix. But Superman is different. He carries a legacy of optimism and morality that clashes with the raunchy irreverence of Peacemaker.

If Gunn brings Superman into Season 2, it will signal his willingness to stretch the character’s boundaries as part of his broader “DCU Chapter One” roadmap. Yet it could also alienate families and longtime fans who don’t want Superman associated with nudity and explicit content. In short, what Gunn sees as bold world-building may strike others as reckless brand management.

What It Means Going Forward

For now, nothing is confirmed — the image could be promotional, a gag, or a tease of something larger. But the conversation around Superman appearing in Peacemaker has already started. And it’s a debate worth having: should the Man of Steel be used to bolster a show designed for adults only, or should he remain in spaces where his reputation as a family hero stays intact?

If Gunn is serious about unifying the DC Universe, Superman and Peacemaker crossing paths may only be the beginning. Whether that crossover strengthens the brand or fractures it remains to be seen.

Gunn is making two mistakes here.

1. Diminishing the virtue of Superman by having him associated in any way, shape, or form with Peacemaker. A character Superman would never likely ever encounter (he’s got bigger threats to deal with).

2. Trying to integrate movies with TV shows. Did they learn nothing from Marvel’s failure? Having events happen in the movie or TV shows that reference back and forth becomes homework, especially when the shows suck or aren’t to your taste. Most D+ shows sucked, so people didn’t like them and got lost when it came to the movies. Peacemaker is decidedly adult fare. People shouldn’t have to put themselves through the blah of a TV show nor feel compelled to watch a show that offends their values to understand what is happening in a movie.

If Superman does something monumental in Peacemaker that is reflected in The Man of Tomorrow it will be proof that the integrated DCU is destined to fail.
