A frightening incident at Disneyland has raised new questions about guest safety after a 13-year-old boy exited a ride vehicle on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and went down the attraction’s iconic 50-foot drop.
According to Fox News, the incident occurred Sunday evening on Disneyland’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the log flume attraction that replaced Splash Mountain in 2024.

Disneyland officials confirmed that the teen exited his ride vehicle before reaching the attraction’s final descent.
A Disneyland spokesperson told Fox News that “a cast member immediately stopped the ride” after becoming aware of the situation. The teenager was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and was later released.
Fortunately, the incident does not appear to have resulted in serious injuries.
Witnesses Describe Chaotic Scene
While Disney has not released extensive details about exactly how the incident unfolded, witnesses who discussed the situation online painted a dramatic picture.
According to Fox News, several guests reported seeing the boy slide down the attraction’s steep final drop before emergency personnel arrived.

One Reddit user who claimed to be riding the attraction at the time said passengers witnessed the teenager fall moments before the ride came to a stop.
Another commenter wrote:
“He attempted to exit the ride vehicle at the top of the final drop. The ride stop mechanism failed to engage or was already past the threshold for the vehicle to enter free fall.”
That account has not been independently verified, and Disney has not commented on the specific claim.
What is known is that the attraction was shut down immediately following the incident.
Ride Closed Following Incident
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure remained closed for the rest of Sunday evening before reopening the following day.
Disney has not indicated that the attraction experienced any mechanical malfunction.

Based on the company’s public statements, the incident appears to have stemmed from a guest exiting the ride vehicle while the attraction was in operation rather than from a ride failure.
That distinction is likely to be important as more details emerge.
Questions Remain About How It Happened
Even if the attraction itself functioned as designed, many Disney fans are asking the obvious question: How was a guest able to exit the ride vehicle so close to the attraction’s final drop?
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure utilizes a traditional log flume ride system that relies heavily on riders remaining seated throughout the experience.
Disney attractions routinely instruct guests to keep their hands, arms, feet, and legs inside ride vehicles and remain seated until instructed otherwise.

While guests ignoring ride safety rules is not unheard of, exiting a log flume vehicle near the top of a 50-foot descent represents an unusually dangerous situation.
One witness summed up the incident bluntly, telling Fox News: “Luck was on his side.”
Given the potential consequences of a guest leaving a ride vehicle at that point in the attraction, many observers would likely agree.
Disney’s Splash Mountain Replacement
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure debuted in 2024 as Disney’s replacement for Splash Mountain.
Inspired by Disney’s animated film The Princess and the Frog, the attraction retained the ride system and signature 50-foot drop that made Splash Mountain one of the most recognizable attractions in Disney Parks history.
