Production on The Batman Part II has hit another roadblock, with filming temporarily paused as director Matt Reeves steps away to deal with a personal matter.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and DC Studios confirmed that production on the long-awaited Robert Pattinson sequel has been halted while Reeves addresses what the studio described as a family matter.
“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a studio representative said. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
No additional details about the situation were provided, nor has Warner Bros. announced how long the pause is expected to last.
While Reeves’ personal circumstances deserve privacy, the interruption nevertheless adds another chapter to what has already become an unusually long journey for The Batman Part II.
The Batman Part II Has Already Faced Years of Delays
The latest pause is hardly the first time The Batman Part II has seen its production schedule disrupted.
The sequel was officially announced in April 2022, shortly after The Batman became a box office success. At one point, filming was reportedly expected to begin in November 2023.

However, those plans were derailed amid the Writers Guild of America strike.
In June 2023, Collider reported that production had been pushed from November 2023 to March 2024. Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin were unable to continue working on the screenplay during the strike.
March 2024 came and went without cameras rolling.
That same month, Warner Bros. delayed the movie’s theatrical release from October 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026.
The studio subsequently delayed the movie again, moving it to October 1, 2027, as Reeves continued working on the screenplay. The lengthy development process eventually generated rumors that the movie could be canceled or that Reeves might no longer direct.
As That Park Place previously reported, those rumors proved unfounded. Reeves remained attached to direct, while DC Studios co-head James Gunn repeatedly insisted the sequel was still a priority.
Getting The Batman Part II in Front of Cameras
Reeves and Tomlin finally completed the screenplay in June 2025, seemingly clearing one of the project’s largest hurdles.
Even then, production remained months away. Reeves said in September 2025 that filming was expected to begin around late April or early May 2026.

Cameras ultimately began rolling in June 2026 — roughly two-and-a-half years after the November 2023 production start once envisioned for the sequel.
But even reaching the set didn’t put an end to the delays.
In July, Warner Bros. pushed The Batman Part II back yet again, moving the film from October 2027 to February 18, 2028. The announcement was accompanied by the first camera test footage of Pattinson’s Batman.
The latest release date means nearly six years will have passed between The Batman and its sequel.
Another Setback for Batman
The current production pause is obviously different from the creative and scheduling issues that previously delayed the sequel. A family matter can arise without warning, and Warner Bros. has given no indication that Reeves’ position as director is in jeopardy.
However, it is difficult to ignore just how long audiences have already been waiting.

When The Batman Part II was announced in April 2022, the sequel appeared poised to build relatively quickly on the success of Reeves’ first film. Instead, the project endured repeated production and release-date delays before cameras finally started rolling more than four years later.
Now, even production itself has been interrupted.
For the moment, The Batman Part II remains scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 18, 2028. Warner Bros. has not indicated that the current pause will affect that date.
After years of shifting schedules, however, another prolonged interruption could make that February 2028 target increasingly difficult to maintain.
