Variety reports that Warner Bros. has delayed The Batman: Part II yet again, pushing its release date back another four months.

Alongside the announcement, director Matt Reeves released the first footage of Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight, giving fans their first official look at Batman since the original film premiered in 2022.

The latest delay means audiences will now wait nearly six years between installments, making it one of the longest gaps between live-action Batman films featuring the same lead actor.

First Footage Finally Arrives

More of a camera test than a traditional teaser, the footage shows Pattinson wearing an updated Batsuit while standing in falling snow. The wintry setting appears to line up with a clip Reeves shared in May showing the Batmobile outfitted with snow tires.

The footage concludes by revealing The Batman: Part II’s new release date of February 18, 2028. Warner Bros. did not provide a detailed explanation for the latest delay, though the project has already endured multiple schedule changes dating back to the 2023 Hollywood strikes and the lengthy development of Reeves’ screenplay.

The announcement sparked mixed reactions online. Many fans expressed frustration over yet another delay, while others pointed out that late-winter release dates have often been viewed as a dumping ground for films in which studios have less confidence, citing Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World as one recent example.

At the same time, the new release date has fueled fresh speculation that the sequel draws inspiration from Batman: The Long Halloween. The film was previously scheduled to open on October 2, 2027, but its new Valentine’s Day-adjacent release has led some fans to wonder whether the timing is intentional, given that the iconic comic centers around a series of murders committed on holidays throughout the year.

Cast Returns as Production Nears

While plot details remain tightly guarded, Warner Bros. has confirmed that Robert Pattinson will once again lead the film as Bruce Wayne alongside several returning cast members from the first movie.

Jeffrey Wright returns as James Gordon, Andy Serkis reprises his role as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell is back as Oswald Cobblepot following HBO’s The Penguin, though reportedly in a smaller role. Barry Keoghan is also expected to return after his brief appearance as the Joker in the original film.

Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson have also joined the cast, though their roles remain the subject of widespread speculation. Early rumors suggested they would portray Harvey Dent and Gilda Dent, a pairing that would further support theories that Reeves is adapting elements of The Long Halloween, where both characters play significant roles.

More recent rumors, however, claim that Bryan Tyree Henry—not Stan—is playing Harvey Dent, while Johansson has reportedly been cast as Poison Ivy. If true, some fans believe the sequel could instead incorporate elements of The Court of Owls, another of Batman’s most acclaimed modern storylines.

Fans Still Have Plenty of Questions

Until Warner Bros. releases a full trailer or reveals more about the story, much of the speculation surrounding The Batman: Part II will remain just that—speculation. For now, fans at least have their first glimpse of Pattinson’s return, even if they’ll have to wait a little longer before seeing the finished film.
