The Marvels‘ box office grosses plummeted to unseen levels for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, dropping 87% in its second Friday.

The Brie Larson vehicle only grossed $2.8 million according to The-Numbers in its second Friday. The film previously grossed $21.6 million in its first Friday on November 10th.

Box office analyst Luiz Fernando declared the film was “rejected by audiences” and predicted the film would only bring in between $9 million and $11 million in its second weekend, a drop between 76% and 81%.

The film’s opening weekend box office came in at $46.1 million.

Fernando also points out that The Marvels’ second Friday was the lowest in Marvel Cinematic Universe, another record the film has achieved.

The record was previously held by The Incredible Hulk, which grossed $6.7 million back in 2008. 2015’s Ant-Man grossed $7.3 million.

The film also performed worse than other non –Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Sony’s much maligned Morbius film even performed better with a $2.9 million haul in its second Friday last year.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix beat it with a gross of $2.4. Even DC’s Blue Beetle did $2.6 million earlier this year.

Fernando is not alone in his prediction that the film will have a massive decline in its second weekend. Exhibitor Relations shared that they believe the film will only bring in $10 million in its second weekend, and will have a drop between 75% and 80%.

These predictions from both Fernando and Exhibitor Relations are much worse than what Box Office Pro predicted earlier this week.

The outlet projected the film would bring in $16 million and have a 65% decline.

This poor second week shatters the narrative that this film’s poor performance at the box office was due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and the actors not being able to promote the film.

Clearly, they were allowed to the promote the film on all the morning and late night shows and it did not spur potential audiences to go to the theater to see the film. There might actually be an argument that having the actors on the morning and late night shows depressed the film’s box office given how the projections for the film’s second week have declined over 10% in less than a week.

“In it is second Friday”?
So we do not even care about spelling in article titles anymore?
