Several accounts on X have been circulating supposed behind-the-scenes snapshots showing cast members outfitted with heavy battle makeup. Mixed into those posts were two images claiming to show Maguire suited up as Spider-Man. These pictures have not been verified, and they don’t appear to come from an official set photographer, but they were enough to kick-start the latest rumor cycle.
WDW Pro Rumor Confirmed?
This is far from the first time Tobey Maguire has been rumored for Doomsday and the upcoming Avengers Secret War.
That Park Place publisher and Hollywood scooper WDW Pro previously discussed the possibility that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man could end up as the narrative anchors of Secret Wars a whole two years ago.
That discussion suggested Marvel was considering more than one Spider-Man appearing across the next two ensemble films, including Avengers: Doomsday. Now that Jackman is officially back in the MCU fold through Deadpool & Wolverine, fans are revisiting Pro’s earlier speculation to see whether Marvel might still follow through on the idea.
The Legacy Factor
There’s also Marvel’s broader multiverse playbook to consider.
Hugh Jackman is already back as Wolverine in Deadpool and Wolverine. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, and more were already confirmed for Doomsday.

With several pre-MCU-era stars re-entering the fold, it makes sense that fans are wondering whether Maguire—the original cinematic Spider-Man for an entire generation—may join the roster, even briefly.
Marvel’s Vault Is Tighter Than Ever
Even if the latest images amount to nothing, the possibility of Tobey Maguire appearing in Avengers: Doomsday remains very real.

Marvel Studios has been far more guarded with its surprises in recent years, especially after fan reactions drove the runaway success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (which featured Tobey Maguire). If they’re trying to recreate that kind of magic, keeping legacy appearances under wraps until the last possible second would be the obvious move.
Final Word… for Now
For the moment, this entire situation sits firmly in the rumor category. The images circulating online are unverified, leaks are all second-hand, and Marvel Studios hasn’t made any official announcement. But the excitement is unmistakable.
Whenever Tobey Maguire’s name enters the MCU conversation, fans respond with enthusiasm—and that alone keeps the speculation alive.

If Tobey Maguire does swing into Avengers: Doomsday, it could be one of the biggest audience-reaction moments Marvel has left in its arsenal. Until then, treat this as exactly what it is: a rumor with just enough fuel to keep fans watching.

It would be interesting to see a mature spiderman, one jaded and no longer wowed or star struck when hero, villain, or environment changes.
As much as I liked Tom Holland, I am a little tired of the meekness and uncertainty that he infused in the character. He questioned everything, was surprised by everything, and never really grew confidence or judgment over 5 outings with the character.
Is the innocent Peter Parker someone people want to see? Maybe, but I think an older and cynical Peter Parker would pair really well with a world-weary Wolverine.
I don’t think that’s necessarily the version of Spidey people want to see, especially from Tobey. Maybe if that was Andrew and his Spidey, but I think what everyone wants to see is the thing Marvel Comics won’t give fans, and that’s a Spidey happily married to Mary Jane, maybe with a kid or two. Narratively that fits given what we learned about the two earlier Spidey’s in No Way Home.
Of course, there’s also the fact that (to the best of my knowledge) Tobey himself remains apolitical and free of controversy of any kind. He hasn’t been outspoken about liberal causes like Andrew, so he’s going to have a broader appeal. And yes, it helps that he’s the original Spider-Man, but at this point it helps far more that he keeps his personal opinions to himself.
I agree, comic fans and I suspect movie fans, want to see Peter end up with the girl. The end of No Way Home was sort of a kick to the nads and reinforced the big BS Marvel did a few years ago where Mephestio saved Aunt May but stole Peter and Mary Jane’s marriage.
I am a bigger fan of Tobey these days too. Andrew is a weird one. He did a fantastic job working with Mel Gibson on Hacksaw Ridge (definitely in my top 10 of all war movies) then morphs into… what he is now. Making stuff like “tick, tick… BOOM!” and blaring on and on about delusional progressive causes and his support of affirming people in their various mental illnesses.
I’m rather with you on this.
Great actor, but he wasn’t enough to make me watch No Way Home and he definitely won’t make me watch this garbage.
