The opening of Epic Universe, the fourth theme park at Universal Orlando Resort, is going to be a very exciting time for the entire Orlando theme park industry. With crowds expected to swell at opening, many have been wondering how Universal will control crowd sizes. A recent communication from Universal to ticket vendors may have answered that question.

Third party services have been informed by Universal that Epic Universe tickets will only be available for purchase with a three-day ticket package. Only one of those days will be earmarked for Epic Universe. So, in other words, if you want to go to Epic Universe, you’ll need to also visit one or two of the other parks on Universal property. This includes Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay water park.

Sources from within Universal have confirmed a “phased” opening of Epic Universe, noting that single and multi-day tickets for the new park will be made available at a later time.

In a statement made to Fox 35, a representative from Universal said:

“We plan to offer a range of ticket products to help manage the expected demand for Epic Universe and to ensure all guests visiting have a great experience at this groundbreaking park. We are currently speaking exclusively to our sales partners to help them prepare for the sales effort to follow. We are introducing products in a phased approach starting with multi-day ticket packages that include an opportunity to visit Epic Universe in addition to the entire Universal Orlando Resort for those planning vacations further out. Additional ticket options – including multi-day and single-day tickets and ticket add-ons will be made available in additional phases. Details will be shared at a later date.”

This tactic by Universal will not only ensure a more controlled crowd at opening, but it will also get vacationers to dedicate a full three days of their trip to Universal Orlando Resort. Over the years, many people add one or two Universal days to their Walt Disney World vacation. However, this policy would force them to split the week if they were also vacationing at Disney.

It should be noted that Disney is already seeing lower attendance numbers this summer, with Fourth of July in the Magic Kingdom practically deserted when compared to recent years.

Epic Universe will be a brand new theme park with several themed lands based on properties like Nintendo, Universal Monsters, How to Train Your Dragon, Harry Potter, and a new concept called Celestial Park.

It will be opening to guests in 2025.
