Horror enthusiasts, brace yourselves: Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) 34 is set to deliver one of its most anticipated experiences yet, with an all-new haunted house inspired by the blockbuster 2023 film (and 2014 video game series) Five Nights at Freddy’s.

What began as vague whispers and speculation earlier this year has now solidified into concrete details, transforming the beloved horror video game franchise into a nightmarish reality for guests at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

The Origins: From Indie Game to Cultural Phenomenon

For those unfamiliar, Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) started as an indie survival horror video game created by Scott Cawthon in 2014. Set in the eerie confines of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza—a fictional family entertainment center reminiscent of Chuck E. Cheese—the game tasks players with surviving five nights as a security guard while fending off malfunctioning animatronic characters that come to life after dark. Its jump-scare mechanics, atmospheric tension, and lore-rich storytelling quickly catapulted it to viral fame, spawning sequels, books, merchandise, and a dedicated fanbase.

The franchise reached new heights with its 2023 film adaptation, produced by Blumhouse Productions. Directed by Emma Tammi and starring Josh Hutcherson as the beleaguered protagonist Mike Schmidt, the movie grossed over $297 million worldwide, making it Blumhouse’s highest-earning film to date.

It faithfully recreated the game’s chilling vibe, blending supernatural horror with psychological dread as Mike uncovers dark secrets tied to the animatronics’ haunted past. The film’s success paved the way for its integration into live events like HHN, where immersive horror experiences thrive.

The Announcement: Concrete Details Emerge

Earlier rumors suggested FNAF’s involvement in HHN 34, but Universal officially confirmed that the franchise would be a part of the event on June 1, 2025, sending shockwaves through the horror community.

The company promised that more news would soon follow, with an official announcement dropping on July 29, 2025 detailing the haunted house experience.

According to Universal’s description, visitors will “fight to survive as they venture through an all-new haunted house inspired by the 2023 hit film Five Nights at Freddy’s.”

Guests step into the role of Mike, a recently fired individual desperate for work to retain custody of his little sister. Accepting a night security guard position at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, they soon discover that nothing is as it seems. The experience unfolds through dimly lit corridors, where supernatural forces lure victims into “the black heart of an unspeakable nightmare.”

The haunted house is  part of a larger lineup for HHN 34, which includes other high-profile houses like Fallout, Friday the 13th, WWE, and Terrifier, making this year’s event a powerhouse of pop culture horror.

What to Expect: Face-to-Face with Iconic Nightmares

The journey through the house mirrors key scenes from the film, bringing guests face-to-face with full-scale replicas of the eerie animatronic characters: Freddy Fazbear, the hulking bear leader; Chica, the chicken with a sinister appetite; Bonnie, the guitar-wielding bunny; Foxy, the pirate fox lurking in the shadows; and even the deceptive Mr. Cupcake.

These larger-than-life figures will stalk visitors through iconic locations, including the security room—where monitors flicker with ominous surveillance footage—and the showroom, site of the animatronics’ once-cheerful performances turned deadly.

Universal emphasizes the immersive terror.

“The terror will start as guests navigate the corridors and learn that nothing at Freddy’s is what it seems when they encounter the supernatural,” the company said. Expect jump scares, atmospheric sound design featuring the franchise’s signature creaks, whispers, and mechanical whirs, and a narrative that builds to a climactic descent into horror.

Behind the Scenes: A Collaboration of Horror Masters

One of the standout features is the collaboration with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the legendary team behind iconic puppets and animatronics in films like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. They produced the animatronics and costumes for the 2023 FNAF movie and have reprised their role for HHN, ensuring the characters are authentically terrifying and true to the source material.

This partnership elevates the house beyond typical theme park scares, offering movie-level realism that fans have been clamoring for.

Fan reactions on platforms like Reddit have been ecstatic, with discussions speculating on which game elements might influence future houses if this one succeeds. Some enthusiasts even debate adapting specific FNAF games, like the original or Sister Location, into haunted experiences.

Event Details and How to Experience It

HHN 34 runs select nights from August 30th through November 3, 2025, at Universal Studios Florida. In addition to the 10 haunted houses, the event features scare zones, live shows like the new fountain spectacle Haunt-O-Phonic: A Ghoulish Journey, and themed food and merchandise.

Tickets are available now, with options for single-night entry, multi-night passes, and add-ons like Express Passes to skip lines.

Notably, a similar Five Nights at Freddy’s house is also debuting at Universal Studios Hollywood’s HHN, allowing West Coast fans to join the frights.

Why This Matters: A New Era for HHN

Bringing FNAF to HHN 34 marks a thrilling intersection of gaming, film, and live horror entertainment. As Blumhouse continues to dominate the genre with hits like The Black Phone and M3GAN, this haunted house could set the stage for more adaptations. For fans who’ve survived the games and movie from the safety of their screens, stepping into Freddy’s Pizzeria offers a visceral, real-world test of nerves.
