A new actor will be joining Chris Pratt and Taylor Kitsch for The Terminal List prequel series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.

Deadline’s Denise Petski announced that Black Sails and Game of Thrones veteran Tom Hopper will play James Reece’s closest friend and former Navy SEAL Raife Hastings.

Hastings’ name should be familiar to those who have read the books. As noted above he is James Reece’s closest friend. The two met each other while playing rugby and helped Reece escape from New York as well as inserting him onto Fishers Island to complete his terminal list.

In Jack Carr’s novel, True Believer: A Thriller, he writes, “They’d met on the rugby pitch at the University of Montana in the fall of 1995, Reece playing outside center and Raife as the number eight, by far the most skilled competitor on the team. … A year ahead of Reece in school, Raife had the serious demeanor of someone twice their age. The hint of an accent that Reece couldn’t quite place suggested a history beyond the borders of North America. As Reece quickly tired of the traditional party scene associated with college life, he noted that Raife spent his free time either studying wildlife management in the library or taking off alone in his Jeep Scrambler to explore the Montana backcountry.”

It’s eventually revealed that Hastings is from Rhodesia.

Hastings’ presence was hinted at in the first season of the Terminal List when he provides a boat for Reece and Ben Edwards.

A letter is left for them that reads, “This makes us even. If you make it out, you know where to go. -R.”

The prequel series was originally announced last year with Prime Video sharing in a press release, “The prequel series featuring additional iconic Carr characters, including James Reece (Chris Pratt), Raife Hastings, Mohammed Farooq, and Ernest “Boozer” Vickers (Jared Shaw), is an elevated espionage thriller that takes viewers on Edwards’ journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator, exploring the darker side of warfare and the human cost that comes with it.”

Furthermore, they shared, “Kitsch will star in the new untitled prequel series and serve as executive producer, alongside Chris Pratt through Indivisible Productions, Antoine Fuqua through Hill District Media, author Jack Carr, writer/showrunner David DiGilio, former Army Ranger Max Adams, and former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw.”

The first season adapted Carr’s book of the same name and saw Reece seek revenge against the people and organizations that murdered his daughter and wife. His daughter and wife were murdered after he returned home following his Navy SEALs were ambushed during a cover mission.

Reece eventually discovers that his team was part of an experimental drug test conducted by Capstone Industries and approved by the United States’ Secretary of Defense. The drug was supposed to prevent PTSD, but eventually gave Reece and his team fatal brain tumors.

At the end of the season, it’s revealed that Kitsch’s Edwards was in on the ambush and even orchestrated it. Like all the others on his Terminal List, Reece seemingly ends Edwards’ life.

A second season was announced back in February of last year. In a press release, “Prime Video confirmed a second season of the hit conspiracy thriller The Terminal List from MRC Television, with Season Two based on Jack Carr’s New York Times best-selling novel True Believer.”

Pratt said at the time, “I’m excited to announce that the second season of The Terminal List is on its way, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to reprise my role as James Reece. This season promises to be even more intense and action-packed than the first, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

He also commented on the prequel series, “And for those who are fans of Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards, I’m happy to say that we’re also working on a spinoff series that will delve deeper into his story and follow his journey from a Navy SEAL to a CIA operative. And to make it even more exciting, I will also be appearing in this prequel series!”

Pratt concluded, “I promise you it will be just as thrilling and engaging as The Terminal List. Stay tuned for more updates and we can’t wait for you all to join us on this journey.”

Given Hastings plays a significant role in the second novel, it’s likely Hopper will play the role in both the second season of The Terminal List as well as in Dark Wolf.
