X-Men: The Animated Series creators Larry Houston and Eric Lewald defended Marvel Animation’s decision to push transgender ideology by describing Morph as “non-binary” in the upcoming X-Men ’97 series.

It was hinted by fired showrunner Beau DeMayo at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 that the series would be pushing a gender identity agenda with Morph.

DeMayo introduced the character saying, “Morph decided to show a little bit of a different side to themselves this season. We’re going to go with the changeling look.”

Empire Magazine’s Helen O’Hara confirmed the character was “nonbinary” in an interview with DeMayo for the outlet’s April 2024 magazine. O’Hara wrote, “The death of shapeshifter Morph in the original animated series (it didn’t stick, obviously) was shocking for young viewers, and it stuck with DeMayo.”

She then quoted DeMayo who informed her, “He really set the stakes and he had a very interesting relationship with the team because of trauma.”

O’Hara concluded, “This is a lighter take on the character, who is nonbinary and has an interesting buddy relationship with Wolverine. The character’s past with Mister Sinister, the show’s villain could also come into play.”

Now, in an interview with Variety, X-Men: The Animated Series director Larry Houston and writer Eric Lewald defended the decision to push the gender agenda with Morph in X-Men ’97.

Houston said, “For me, the word ‘nonbinary’ is the same as the word ‘shapeshifter.’ Every character that can change from one gender to another, or from human to animal, that’s just another word for ‘shapeshifter’ for me.”

As for Lewald, he pointed to Morph shapeshifting into Rogue, Storm, and Jean Grey in Season 2. He said, “He attacks Wolverine, his closest friend, in the most dramatic way by turning into Jean Grey and putting his hand on Wolverine’s neck and leaning in for a kiss. That’s as nonbinary as you can get.”

“It’s Morph turning into a woman and coming onto Wolverine to freak him out,” he explained. “It was all there in Morph’s character. Now it’s become such a social thing that I think people will be more sensitive to how it’s used. That’s the only difference. We didn’t see a problem in reading him and didn’t feel he was any different.”

While some may view these comments as innocuous, they are in fact lies, and the ideology they push is an attack on reality. And by changing the language from shapeshift to nonbinary, they are clearly attempting to normalize this ideology for viewers of the show. This is evil.

Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington explains in A Catechesis on the Human Person and Gender Ideology, “The claim to ‘be transgender’ or the desire to seek ‘transition’ rests on a mistaken view of the human person, rejects the body as a gift from God, and leads to grave harm. To affirm someone in an identity at odds with biological sex or to affirm a person’s desired “transition” is to mislead that person. It involves speaking and interacting with that person in an untruthful manner.”

He adds, “Although the law of gradualness might prompt us to discern the best time to communicate the fullness of the truth, in no circumstances can we confirm a person in error.”

Furthermore, Bishop Burbidge instructs the faithful, “The faithful should avoid using ‘gender-affirming’ terms or pronouns that convey approval of or reinforce the person’s rejection of the truth. It is not harsh or judgmental to decline to use such language.”

“In the broader culture, Catholics may experience significant pressure to adopt culturally-approved terminology,” he elaborates. “However, in no circumstances should anyone be compelled to use language contrary to the truth. The right to speak the truth inheres in the human person and cannot be taken away by any human institution.”

Not only does Bishop Burbidge provide clear instruction, but Archbishop Sample of the Archdiocese of Portland explains how dangerous the ideology’s social transition and normalization is.

In his A Catholic Response to Gender Identity Theory, Archbishop Sample states, “To some, supporting aspects of social transition may seem benign, even humane, such as using someone’s preferred pronouns and actively affirming his or her perceived gender. However, while well-intentioned, this kind of endorsement may help shepherd a young person on a path of unnecessary medicalization.”

His Excellency continues, “Social transition is often the first step towards hormones and surgery. A 2020 survey of transgender and nonbinary youth found that 64% of respondents were either already receiving cross-sex hormones or desired to do so. Danish researchers who first used puberty blockers on gender dysphoric children found that social transition increased the likelihood that dysphoria would persist and result in medicalization.”

“Social transition can also include practices such as breast-binding and genital tucking, both of which have been shown to have averse effects on physical health, like testicular torsion and reduced fertility in males, and abnormal lung function and back pain in females,” he notes. “Moreover, a 2020 study on the effects of social transition found that family and peer relations, but not social transition status, predicted psychological functioning.”
