Viewership for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire plummeted in the film’s third week on Netflix. Not only did viewership decline, but the film lost its top spot on the streamer to Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer 3.

According to Netflix, the film racked up 23.9 million views and 54.1 million hours in its first week on the streaming service. In its second week, and its first full week, the film’s views increased to 34 million and hours viewed went up to 77 million hours.
The film was the most watched film on the platform for both weeks.
However, in its third week, the film saw its viewership decline to 11.1 million views and hours viewed declined to 25.1 million. Washington’s The Equalizer 3 took the top spot with 14.8 million views and 26.8 million hours viewed.
Rebel Moon has been viewed 69 million times according to Netflix. The streamer defines a view “as the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime.”

The film is performing far worse than recent Netflix original films that topped Netflix’s charts. Leave the World Behind took the top spot at the beginning of December when it debuted with 41.7 million views and 98.7 million hours viewed.
In its second week, the film saw views increase to 44.9 million and hours viewed hit 106.2 million. As is typical on Netflix, viewership dropped in its third week, but it still posted 19.7 million views and 46.7 hours viewed.

The Adam Sandler animated film, Leo, also performed better than Rebel Moon. In its first week at the end of November, it had 34.6 million views and 61.7 million hours. In its second week, it dipped to 23.6 million views and 42.1 million hours viewed.
However, it still had more views than Rebel Moon in its third week. It had 14.2 million views and 25.4 million hours viewed.

The film is trending far behind action thriller Equalizer 2. That film debuted on Netflix back in the middle of June with 42.8 million views and 88.4 million hours viewed.
In its second week it racked up another 42.2 million views and 87.3 million hours. In week three, it posted 17.5 million views and 36.2 million hours.
Extraction 2 is the 10th most watched film on Netflix of all time with 134.9 million views and 278.7 million hours viewed.

Along with these declining viewership numbers, the film has received poor audience scores. On Rotten Tomatoes it currently sits at a rotten 59%. It has an average rating of 3.3 out of 5.

The declining viewership and the poor audience scores do not bode well for Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver, which is set to arrive on Netflix on April 19, 2024.
It’s likely Rebel Moon will follow the pattern of The Witcher Season 3. The Witcher Season 3 debuted at the end of June as the top English-language TV program on Netflix with 15.2 million views and 73 hours viewed.
By the end of July when the second part of the season debuted its viewership had been cut in half. It only posted 7.8 million views and 59 hours viewed.
