Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza expressed his displeasure at Gina Carano’s lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, but almost immediately afterwards admitted he has no clue what he’s talking about.

Nicieza reacted to The Hollywood Reporter’s coverage of Carano’s lawsuit and a post that specifically shared a quote from X’s Joe Benarroch explaining why the company was supporting Carano’s lawsuit.
Benarroch said, “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X.”

Nicieza reacted to this post writing, “On what planet did she not HAVE free speech? She was — and still is — completely allowed to express her views from Twitter to Hollywood Reporter to a street corner with a megaphone.”
He then seemingly derided Carano and her supporters, “Do any of you freedumbers understand the concept of CONSEQUENCES from what you >freely< said?”

When asked what Carano said was so bad, Nicieza admitted he “didn’t pay much attention.”
He wrote, “I didn’t pay much attention. I think it was anti-vax, anti-LGBTQ stuff but I was pretty indifferent to that noise. I don’t think Disney “fired” her, they chose not to renew the option on her contract. And I care more about the lawyer’s BS than hers.”

Ironically, when called out for commenting on something he admitted he didn’t know anything about, he resorted to acting like a child and name-calling.
He wrote, “John, go stick a comic up your butt, preferably a treasury edition. I knew you were baiting ‘debate’ but I gave you the benefit of the doubt. DISNEY thought whatever she said warranted a preference to not be associated with her, so my opinion isn’t even a part of the equation.”

He then attempted to justify his comments, “And the lawyer is babbling about ‘free speech rights’ and that’s what my tweet was referring to, i.e. his BS on the subject and the constant misinterpretation of what the 1st Amendment means. Done.”

A couple of hours after this interaction, Nicieza was informed about California law to which he still balked, “I’m sure it’s complicated, as with any contract that goes year to year with a company option on renewal (which I’m guessing is the case with the supporting actors in a show like the Mandalorian). I don’t know how you can legally even consider it being ‘fired’ in that case.”

Legal analyst Andrew Esquire, who hosts the Legal Mindset YouTube channel, explained the validity of Carano’s claim against The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm.
Addressing Carano’s complaint of wrongful discharge in the state of California, he explained that it requires “no employer shall make, adopt, or enforce any rule, regulation, or policy: Forbidding or preventing employees from engaging or participating in politics or from becoming candidates for public office. Controlling or directing, or tending to control or direct the political activities or affiliations of employees.”
He explained, “Speech. Political speech is a political activity. They terminated her based on her posts, which were political in nature which was trying to forbid her from engaging in politics therefore controlling her.”
He would also cite another portion of the law, “It goes on to say no employers shall coerce, influence, or by any means threaten of discharge or loss of employment to adopt, follow, or restrain from adopting any particular course or line of political action or activity.”
He stated, “They’re dead to rights on this. They’re dead to rights on this. This fits neatly with this statute.”
