The lines for Alec Baldwin and John Carpenter at MegaCon - That Park Place

Abrasive celebrities like Alec Bladwin didn’t necessarily have a good time at MegaCon this year, one of the biggest pop culture conventions on the planet. For movie stars and influencers who have taken divisive positions in the past, lines were hard to come by and fan interactions far less than more accessibly, kind and generous icons.

As a guest at MegaCon this year, I traveled around the autograph areas on Friday, March 20th at various points throughout the day.

I saw vast lines for Mr. T, for Sean Astin, for Elijah Wood, for Jim Cummings… but at some booths, it was hard to ignore there was a serious lack of engagement. And for those A and B listers who were expecting a greater reception, it may have been a stunning wake-up call regarding their popularity in pop culture.

It even appeared that at booths such as Alec Baldwin, PR trickery was afoot to hide just how small the lines were to get a chance at meeting the oft-SNL host and star of hits such as Beetlejuice.

Take, for example, this video by his brother where the camera rotates quickly and seems to hide that the line in background is actually for John Carpenter adjacent to the Baldwin’s:

And, of course, that may have opened the door for some shenanigans as the wait and investment to spoof a celeb wasn’t so long at certain tables!

According to a statement received from “Alec Baldwin’s Finger” to That Park Place, Mr. Baldwin also wasn’t commanding a massive line on Saturday.

“We accidentally went to the autograph line thinking that’s where the photo op was and we had about 15 people in front of us around 12:20 PM on Saturday,” he said.

Considering that Megacon is often shoulder-to-shoulder on Saturdays, and considering that 12:20 PM is one of the most crowded times at the convention, it’s almost hard to believe that Baldwin only had fifteen people lined up to meet him.

If he met with each guest for about a minute, that’s fifteen minutes in line… while celebrities like Orlando Bloom reportedly had hour-long waits (or more). Remember that we’ve often seen people like Gina Carano at conventions have lines out the door.

Getting a chance to say “hello” to William Shatner on his 95th birthday had that sort of vibe. But for stars of a certain “harsh” variety, it seems fans have spoken loud and clear.

Were you at Megacon this year? Did you see a disparity in the length of lines that surprised you? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to That Park Place for all the news that should be fun!

John Carpenter hasn’t made a movie in decades, but the man is a living legend and made the greatest sci-fi horror movie of all time, and one of the best movies period in The Thing. If that’s all he had ever made that alone would be impressive, but he also made Halloween, Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, The Fog, Christine, and They Live. That’s a legendary career, in the same lofty heights as Kubrick and Hitchcock, and these other people at this convention aren’t even in his league. I’m happy to see the man get his flowers over these other hacks.

For me, Alien is the greatest (And Sigourney Weaver the worst thing in it, they should have hired a hot actress, instead), but, I’ll watch The Thing again, for my mind might well alter.

Mark Emark

I’d get in Baldwin’s line just to walk up to him, shake his hand, and say “Wow, I never shook hands with a real life murderer before.”

All these parasites deserve is irrelevance. They live on attention and should be deprived from it.

James Eadon

Irrelevance, and, sweeter yet, to be publicly shamed as irrelevant. “You are nowt outside your sick, pervert Island (Hollywood), losers”

James Eadon

I used to like Baldwin when he was little known. And, if B-listers like to go around shooting up their staff, that’s not my problem.
However, when his Trump Derangement Syndrome became apparent, well, to me, this poisons every single movie he’s been in. How can I enjoy them, now?
Morons, these “celebs”.

So I guess everyone is just supposed to forget about Alec Baldwin killing someone? He should be in a prison cell, not at a comics convention.

Of course no one wants to stand in Alec Baldwins line, you might get shot!

“Now see, what I actually did in Rust was…” *BANG*
