One of Hollywood’s most high-profile legal dramas in recent years has come to an end. Late Monday afternoon, it was announced that the lawsuit between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has been settled. Despite earlier indications that Lively intended to take the case to trial, the agreement comes just ahead of the scheduled court date.

As more details emerged through court filings, several high-profile figures—including Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds—were drawn into the dispute. These developments led some observers to speculate that the settlement may have been motivated not only by career considerations, but also by a desire to limit further public exposure for those involved.
Origins of the Dispute
The feud between the actress and her It Ends with Us director and co-star began in December 2024. Lively filed an administrative complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, accusing Baldoni of inappropriate behavior on set. Around the same time, The New York Times published an article that included text message exchanges between the two during the film’s production—coverage that many, including Baldoni, felt portrayed him negatively.
Baldoni subsequently filed a lawsuit against the newspaper, alleging defamation in its reporting on the dispute, and also sued Lively for reputational damage. He further claimed involvement from Reynolds. The situation escalated when Lively filed a countersuit, accusing Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and others of harassment and retaliation, among other claims.

Baldoni’s lawsuit was ultimately dismissed. Then, in April, a federal judge threw out the majority of Lively’s claims against him. Ten of her 13 allegations—including sexual harassment—were dismissed on technical grounds, largely due to her classification as an independent contractor rather than an employee.
Lively’s legal team appeared to reframe the dismissal as a victory and expressed its intention to move forward. However, industry insiders suggested that many in Lively’s inner circle—including Taylor Swift—were attempting to distance themselves from the actress and her husband. There were additional reports that the couple was even considering moving to the U.K. for a career reset.
Now that the lawsuit between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has been settled, it remains to be seen what happens next for all involved.
Settlement and Statement
The announcement that the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni lawsuit had been settled arrived weeks before Lively’s remaining case was set to go to trial. The parties released a joint statement.

“The end product—the movie It Ends With Us—is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors—and all survivors—is a goal that we stand behind. We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard. We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”
Aftermath and Industry Impact
While the conflict has been taken out of the courts, it remains to be seen how things play out in the court of public opinion. If the rumors are true that Blake Lively is not receiving as many offers as she was, she may be facing a career pivot. Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds has suggested that his popular MCU character Deadpool may be more of a supporting player moving forward. Some have questioned whether that is a creative choice or an industry reaction.
The immediate conflict may be over, but its ripple effects across careers, reputations, and industry relationships are still unfolding, leaving the longer-term narrative in Hollywood very much unresolved.
