According to Lucasfilm Vice President and COO Dave Filoni, Ahsoka Season 2 is nearing release. Questions have been mounting since the show went back into production over a year ago. Speculation over why Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to indicate when the second season will hit Disney+ has only continued since shooting in the U.K. wrapped last October.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Filoni provided some insight while also attempting to keep fans focused on more immediate releases.

Dave Filoni Says Ahsoka Season 2 Has “Come A Long Way”

Dave Filoni was asked about Ahsoka Season 2 during an event for the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season finale.

“Working on it! It’s coming. It’s come a long way,” Filoni said. “Obviously, I’m editing all the episodes at once right now and just deep in visual effects with the team. But I’m really proud of everyone an the work they put in. Lots of things to resolve and figure out, but that’s normal.”

In November, Empire reported that events in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu will tie into the events of Ahsoka Season 2. As the upcoming eight episodes are still in post-production, those crossover elements could still be adjusted depending on how the new Star Wars film is received.

Still, Filoni expressed enthusiasm for how the next season is progressing. “I’m excited for people to see it.” Briefly referencing the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which was still ongoing during Ahsoka‘s debut, he added, “We didn’t really get to go out and premiere, in a way, last time. I think that the team’s really excited to be out with the fans with this one and see how it goes.”

Dave Filoni Remains Vague About Ahsoka’s Future

When pressed for information on a potential release window for Ahsoka Season 2, Dave Filoni remained vague. “I’m not saying, but I might know,” he said. Bringing it back to that night’s events, he added, “Everything needs its moment. Right now, this is Maul’s moment.”

There have been rumors online that the eight episodes of Ahsoka‘s next season may be its last. Filoni’s response suggests that Lucasfilm may or may not move forward, but that he has a vision for a complete arc. “You never know. Everything works as planned, and I know where the story goes and where it should tie up. And so, I’m not really worried about that,” he said. “But fan speculation is always fun. It’s always fun to hear what people think.”

Ultimately, Filoni encouraged fans to enjoy the more immediate releases. “But we got a lot going on right now in the present. Like a Jedi, you must keep your mind in the here and now,” he said. “We’ve got Maul, and we’ve got Mando happening, so it’s very exciting.”

Personal Vision Vs. Market Reality

Rosario Dawson is set to return as Ahsoka, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo returning as her apprentice, Sabine. Characters from Star Wars Rebels, including Admiral Ackbar, are also expected to appear. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker.

While Dave Filoni could not confirm when Ahsoka Season 2 will be finished, most expect the new episodes to arrive later this year. Taken as a whole, Filoni’s comments suggest both a personal vision for the future and a franchise still leaving room for a potential creative pivot. For now, the remaining fans will be watching closely to see what comes next—and their reaction may ultimately help shape that direction.
