YouTube Premium subscribers will receive access to Peacock at no additional charge under a sweeping new partnership between YouTube and NBCUniversal.

Beginning in early 2027, Peacock Premium will be included with existing and future YouTube Premium subscriptions in the United States. Subscribers will access Peacock programming directly through YouTube rather than paying separately for the streaming service. The deal represents an unprecedented arrangement for both platforms.

YouTube Premium currently costs $16.99 per month and allows subscribers to watch and download ad-free videos while providing full access to YouTube Music. According to Reuters, the service has 125 million subscribers globally, compared to Peacock’s 48 million U.S. subscribers. Including Peacock’s ad-supported tier at no additional charge could therefore place NBCUniversal’s streaming service in front of millions of new viewers. YouTube Premium will also offer subscribers the option to upgrade to Peacock Premium Plus, the service’s mostly ad-free tier.

“With this agreement, Peacock accelerates its next phase of growth by bringing the service to millions of YouTube Premium subscribers, driving long-term value for our business,” Matt Strauss, Chairman of NBCUniversal’s Media Group, said in a statement.

Peacock Expands Its Reach Through YouTube

The arrangement is part of a broader multi-year agreement covering nearly every aspect of the two companies’ businesses.

NBCUniversal’s television networks will remain available through YouTube TV, while Universal+ and Hayu will join YouTube Premium in selected international markets. NBC Sports will also help produce certain live sporting events for YouTube. Peacock Premium, which currently costs $10.99 per month as a standalone service, will remain available separately through YouTube Primetime Channels for viewers who do not subscribe to YouTube Premium. Peacock Premium Plus joined the platform in June.

A selection of NBCUniversal sporting events will also stream through the NBC Sports YouTube channel, giving viewers a sample of programming normally placed behind a television or Peacock subscription.

“This partnership brings NBCUniversal’s world-class content and iconic franchises to YouTube’s unmatched scale and global platforms,” Comcast co-CEO Mike Cavanagh said.

However, neither company disclosed the financial terms of the partnership or explained how YouTube Premium members will be counted among Peacock’s paid subscribers.

Preparing NBCUniversal for Its Comcast Split

The timing of the agreement may be particularly significant because NBCUniversal is preparing to separate from Comcast.

Comcast announced in June that it plans to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky into an independent, publicly traded entertainment company. The transaction is expected to close in mid-2027, only months after Peacock becomes part of YouTube Premium.

Cavanagh will leave Comcast to become CEO of the newly independent NBCUniversal following the separation. However, neither NBCUniversal nor YouTube directly connected the partnership to the planned corporate split.

Reuters reported that negotiations began approximately nine months ago, before Comcast publicly announced the separation. Corporate transactions of that size are typically planned long before being revealed, meaning the timeline does not necessarily rule out a connection.

The agreement could help prepare NBCUniversal to operate without the strategic advantages of sharing a corporate parent with Xfinity. YouTube would provide the newly independent company with an enormous distribution platform, reducing its dependence on Comcast’s cable and broadband infrastructure.

NBCUniversal Prioritizes Reach Over Exclusivity

Taken as a whole, the partnership reflects NBCUniversal’s growing willingness to prioritize reach over exclusivity. Instead of attempting to build a completely self-contained streaming ecosystem, the company is increasingly placing Peacock and its programming within larger distribution platforms.

For YouTube Premium subscribers, the immediate result is straightforward: a major streaming service will be added to their subscription without a corresponding price increase—at least for now.
