Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park has closed for seasonal refurbishment at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The closure began Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following the park’s final scheduled operating day on September 8.

The closure follows the park’s summer operating season. Walt Disney World’s official website confirms the temporary closure and directs guests to Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park while Typhoon Lagoon remains unavailable.

Disney has not announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon. Based off previous refurbishment schedules, Typhoon Lagoon will likely remain closed for the winter months and open sometime spring of next year.

Typhoon Lagoon’s 2026 Operating Season

Typhoon Lagoon reopened for the 2026 season on May 12.

Typhoon Lagoon operated as part of Disney’s Cool KIDS’ SUMMER program from May 26 through September 8, 2026. The program included Stitch character experiences, games and a dance party at the water park. Typhoon Lagoon then entered its scheduled refurbishment beginning September 9.

Typhoon Lagoon also hosted Disney H2O Glow After Hours on select evenings during the summer. Disney scheduled the 2026 event from June 2 through September 5, with the separately ticketed nighttime event running from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Guests could enter Typhoon Lagoon as early as 6 p.m. on event nights. The event included select water park attractions, a DJ dance party, character appearances, and some snacks and beverages included with admission.

Blizzard Beach Remains Open

Blizzard Beach is the other Disney water park at Walt Disney World and serves as the alternative while Typhoon Lagoon is closed. Disney’s current water park information directs guests to Blizzard Beach during the Typhoon Lagoon refurbishment.

Blizzard Beach has its own selection of attractions, including Summit Plummet, Runoff Rapids, Cross Country Creek and Tike’s Peak.

Guests should note that Blizzard Beach does not operate as a guaranteed year-round replacement for Typhoon Lagoon on every date. Disney says that at least one of its water parks is open each day, except when inclement weather affects operations.

Guests visiting Walt Disney World specifically for a water park should check the latest operating information before making plans.

Spring Reopening?

Disney has not announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon. The water park generally closes for the fall and winter months, though its exact refurbishment schedule varies.

Over the last few years, the park generally closes in November, before opening sometime between March and May. Though Disney has not announced an exact timeline, Typhoon Lagoon will likely be back to normal operations before summer of 2027 rolls around.

For guests looking for a Disney water park during the closure, Blizzard Beach remains the alternative identified by Walt Disney World. Further information about Typhoon Lagoon’s reopening will depend on announcements and schedule updates from Disney.
